My orthodontist finally called! Apparently my insurance was being a butt about my wisdom teeth but it's all straightened out now. I have an appointment in two weeks for what could be the last adjustment before my wisdom teeth extraction and jaw surgery! And I'm pumped to get this over with!

tonight for first friday I went to an opening for a joint show a friend of mine (Ed) was in, and I went with another friend (Lauren) and the show was really gorgeous and we ended up talking shop with Ed for like 20 minutes because she was using some really amazing techniques that were impossible to pinpoint as a casual observer. and it was really nice getting out of the studio and hanging out with lauren even though it was for a short time and I see her every day (we work like 4 studio spaces apart from each other)
anyway, the first point is, and I say this a lot but I really do mean it: My friends are really goddamn talented. the second point: wow I really really love what I do, even though I never sleep and spend hours hunched over little pieces of paper, I truly and honestly love printmaking.

Yay boober, that sounds fantastic!
My best was snuggling a cute boy. They were really cute snuggles. Sadly he's 'emotionally broken' from his last relationship and so he seems to want to avoid sex, and even kissing (though it did seem like it was a hard decision for him to stick to). Boo to that, but oh well, I'll take snuggles over no snuggles! And it's cute because he's a fair bit shorter than me so hugging him felt quite different than I'm used to.

Me and my brother went to Ike's place for lunch (I got the Meatless Mike - omg. I don't know when I will return but I'm getting the Captain Kirk next time I'm in San Francisco). Later we're going to the Castro Theatre to watch a double feature of Pulp Fiction and Boogie Nights. Basically today is supremely lovely.

I'm getting paid to hang out with an adorable 3y/o at a Quaker retreat center this weekend, which means I also get to stay here overnight for free, eat delicious garden-fresh food, and visit with some of my favorite grown-ups. I can't even believe how much I win right now. :)

So today just started, but yesterday ruled. We went to the Toronto Veg Fest and I met PPKers lobsterrific, semiautomatic, meshell, weeptowaterthetrees...and Terry and Isa! I ended up sitting beside Terry and Isa during Taymer Mason's demo and I was super nervous about doing so, because like vegan celebs omg. But I did, and introduced myself, trying not to be creepy (because I imagine having people know who you are and you have no idea who they are is inherently a bit creepy). It was a neat experience. Their respective demos were amazing, Taymer's was great, and I had an amazing chocolate chip cookie and lavender ice cream sandwich.

ahhhhh! I've only been awake about 15 minutes, and this is unlikely to be topped. a mate I knew from my cancer days lost both of his legs and a hand during his treatment. well, today he represented Australia in the gold medal match at the Paralympics for wheelchair rugby and won! it's super humbling, and he's super deserving. I'm stoked for the guy :)

We re-housed Bruce Bean the guinea pig with twin brothers Oscar and Spike. There was a bit of teeth chattering, nose pointing and stand-offs but I think they're good now.

My brother agreed to fly a special trip home just to accompany me to a beer fest in a couple weeks. Hooray for priorities!

Gulliver wrote: As part of my continuing obsession with obscure* recipes, I've just discovered a load of resources or medieval European recipes. The spice palate looks amazing and I'm going to treat myself to a fuckton of spices after work and make up some powder-douce and powder-fort. They don't seem to distinguish sweet and savoury quite as much as we do. A surprising number of them are vegan, what with the crushing poverty and plentiful fast days.
Almond milk has been used in England since the 14th century! I've seen Victorian recipes using what we now call seitan as well (I like to call it wheat meat because it's both more authentically/pretentiously English and seitan sounds like Satan and I don't want fallen angels in my food, they surely ain't vegan).
* non-standard Western European or Asian, I guess Gulliver! You are now the best thing about my day! I was really behind on reading this thread and have only just seen your post. I'll have to search to see if you've discussed it more, but in case you haven't, do you have any cookbook or recipe reccommendations? I'm a member of a medieval re-enactment group (very broad period, anything from 600 to 1600 is fair game) and the suitable dishes for me to have at feasts seem to be mostly vegetable pottage or not enough for a full course on their own. (Though we have had some very good puddings). I know any fast day dish that doesn't have fish and can have the honey subbed out should be fine, but there are surprisingly few in our cookbooks.
