I should probably add a best thing for yesterday to my worst thing (see corresponding thread.) First, when I finished my swim, one of my teammates was lakeside, cheering for me. I totally didn't expect a cheering section as biker boy was planning on driving out to see me finish later in the day. So that was good thing #1. Then after I bailed out of the bike, I texted biker boy what happened and that I was going to run anyway. I was kind of letting him off the hook for driving 100 miles round trip since my finish line wouldn't really mean anything. But when I finished, he was there! He'd had to rush through a couple of things he HAD to do, then hightail it down there since I was finishing so much sooner than he'd expected, but he made it. AND HE BROUGHT BEER. He had a mini cooler with a couple of frosty beers in it. Best "recovery" drink ever. Good thing #2 and #3.
Best thing about today is realizing that I'm not totally crushed. Disappointed, yes. But I learned a few things yesterday that will benefit me in future races. One of them was that I was ready.

I think the pelt of a sexy man after laying in the sun eating coconut cookies and petting a cat would win actually.

watching the Royal Tenenbaums on the roof of the free street parking garage with lauren as a break from the 6 hours of studiotime today. It was really nice to have fun with friends here after dropping Jocelyn off to go back to boston this morning and being a bit bummed out.

my garden is apparently a jaw-dropper, judging from the faces of the people who came to visit this weekend.

Since I lost 20lbs, people have been complimenting me wherever I go. All the time. It's forking wonderful. A lady in a health food shop today told me I looked smart and confident. I was wearing jeans with flour on them and an elderly t-shirt. Half my shirts don't fit any more and I can now fit into a pair of jeans that I bought three years ago, and they were a bit tight then.
It's amazing. I'm just so pleased with how well losing weight has gone.
I'm planning on getting down to 75kg/under 12 stone/165lbs, which I'm sure I haven't been since I was 15. It'll take about five or six weeks, I reckons.
Which left me thinking... is it normal for in-shape people to be showered with compliments whenever they leave the house?

My officemate was complaining about the overpriced bread at a place, and then asked me if I could price match them and suggested buying some bread from me. I wasn't sure if he was serious or not, but I made him a loaf anyway and he gave me money! I'm going to blow it all on coffee.

I'm not sure, however I had a lovely compliment along similar lines from a dental nurse today. I haven't lost more than a stone since I last saw her but I've lost at least 10% body fat. I got my crown fitted today. There were drills and I didn't freak out. Maybe one day I'll be able to have a filling without being sedated.

Whenever I'm feeling exceptionally good about myself I do tend to get a lot of random compliments, even from strangers. If I'm feeling like a scrub I don't get no love.

My friend is paying me a somewhat surprise visit! She lives in Germany and was coming over to stay with a friend down in Brighton, but the friend is now in hospital (I've been told it's nothing seriously serious) so obviously unable to entertain. I was going to drive down and visit them but now she's coming to visit me! She's had a real pain of a time trying to get hold of anyone at short notice and arrange a place to stay, which is why she's staying with me four hours away from where she thought she'd be.
Knowing her luck, her American passport will be turned down at the airport for no good reason and she'll be sent back to Germany anyway.
Yaaaaay anyway.

I ran my first two tutorials of the year this morning. When introducing myself in one of them, I mentioned my love of My Little Pony and a student face palmed. Then I asked if anyone else was a brony and I got ANOTHER face palm! I've never felt so accomplished.

A boss-level person dropped in to one of the lessons I was teaching and spent the rest of the day telling everyone else how good it was. My ego is feeling thoroughly stroked.

today was a bit rough over all, but there are two best things about today:
-hearing from an old friend for the first time in a year completely out of the blue and it being timed perfectly so I could spend 45 chatting aimlessly on the phone with him and laughing about stupid shiitake because he is still one of like, 2 people who can say almost nothing and the intonation will make me fall apart in giggles. Homeboy has a way with storytelling and I didn't realize 'till today that I missed it, and now I don't have to miss it because this friend is back in my life again, even from a distance.
- walking in to the print shop to hear the beach boys playing and seeing a bunch of the other majors dancing around making screen prints, and then joining in to the spontaneous joyous expression of printmaking in the face of the howling wind and pouring rain outside.

Okay I have to admit that kind of another best thing about today was reading on FB that my ex was in a fender-bender. I know I'm a dick but... Hah.
