Planning on hanging out tonight with a sweet guy who makes me smile and says wonderful things to me (because he means them and not just cause he's trying to get my pants off). We're going to eat junk food and watch a corny Halloween movie and cuddle with doggies.

Went to Molly Moon's with one of my roommates and got homemade vegan ice cream. So. Freaking. Good.

Had a potluck and clothes swapping party with the derby girls at my place yesterday. <3

I haven't known them for very long, and none of them are particularly familiar with veganism, but they all took care to bake or buy vegan things, and we had a wonderful buffet of things to eat. Also, I ended up with tons of great new clothes: jeans, sweat pants, 2 dresses, a college baseball jacket, a sweater and some cute scarves for in my hair. (Getting great new clothes for free: Best Thing Ever for someone as broke as me.) Also, my deeply beloved green trenchcoat which I never wear found a loving home with one of the others.

Oh and the clothes nobody wanted got taken to the donation bin, so despite having hosted a party, there's no mess at all. One load of dishes, and that's all. Also, Moos was the best kitty ever. I was afraid that he'd be totally scared by the noise and mess of 12 clothes swapping women in my living room and/or that he'd eat half the potluck, but he wasn't scared at all, had all the ladies pet him into oblivion and only managed to devour a tiny piece of quiche.

Maybe not quite "permanent" in Vancouver, but it will be home base for a while. It was a sort of quick decision that I managed to keep fairly quiet about until I f'real decided.

I'll be living on a sailboat, learning to sail, travelling, and going on many adventures, hopefully some of which will soon involve sailing to far off places! I have a feeling I'll be away from Vancouver as much as I'll be in Vancouver. I met a Canadian (complete with cute accent), we fell in love, and we are going to have an awesome life of adventure together!!

My grandmother is moving down here in two weeks. She's currently in a home, that she hates and is all wrong for her, relying on my aunt who, to put it bluntly, is finally running out of goodwill and it's all gone a bit sour. She's been looking after her for a few years, but it's all been a lot of work for her as they don't live that near to one another and don't get along all the time.

Instead, she'll be here in a nicer residential home near two relatives (my uncle and myself), with my mother (her daughter) coming up to stay once a month to do Lady Shopping and see her and my other aunt is only two hours away. Hopefully, this will all be a much better arrangement.

My granny is super-cool, also. She's very intelligent and has a nice, sharp wit. When she met my boyfriend, within two minutes they were drinking whiskey together after she'd dismissed his politely complimenting the pond in her garden by saying that it was just full of duck shiitake. My mother thought she was going to say something racist (he's half-Welsh, half-Chinese and she's of a certain generation) or homophobic (although she's not in the slightest), but no, she gave him some whiskey and they started chatting.

This has all been a long time coming and I'm so glad she'll be near me/us. As much as I love my family, they/we are all a bunch of borderline sociopaths.

I got paid, and Chinese food is on the way. On an unrelated note, there must be something to intuitive eating, because I weighed myself and found I lost 4 pounds. So I'm feeling good.

So far, well, I made a pumpkin pie milkshake. (Also, I just put all the ingredients in a mason jar and shook vigorously, it worked amazingly!)

Holy crepe, I want a pumpkin pie milkshake!

I've had a great day- I'm housesitting two blocks from work (sleep-in craziness!), have two cute doggies in adorable costumes, the team I've supported since birth just brought home their second World Series trophy, and woke up next to a wonderful man who is doing his damndest to make me fall head over heels for him. Everything's coming up Milhouse!

WATERMELON AND BORSCHT

it has been so hot here the last few days (weather broke this evening, violently, and it's cooler now, but it's been unseasonably hot here). Cold watermelon and cold borscht have been sooooo refreshing!

Electric!

I was able to get a hot shower this morning at a friend's house... went to work, where they apparently never lost power... cooked some hot food at another friend's house after work... then got home to find power and internet even at my house!

Now to catch up on all the homework I wasn't able to do all week.

What did you put in it?

Vanilla Ice cream of choice, canned pumpkin purée, milk of choice, cinnamon, allspice. It was so good. (I also scooped the ice cream in thin shaves so it would be easier to shake in)

Organic fruit and veg delivery - delicious apple, and pretty good pear even though I don't like them that much as a rule. Lovely heirloom tomatoes too. Well worth the money, especially since I didn't have to lug it home from the shops and I'm supporting small local businesses.

Two of my classmates decided to drag me in to the projection booth so we could all watch really stupid youtube videos together. laughed until I couldn't breathe. once again the best part of all my days are the rad people I get to spend all my time around.

Yay for super-cool grandmas! My parents were sure that my grandma would flip out if she found out that I'm transgender, but she was actually a billion times cooler about it than anyone else in the family.
