Cornbread is in the oven. It's my first day of winter break and I haven't left the house. I love staying inside when it's cold.

I did a presentation for high school students today and it went well.
Plus, my day was done earlier than normal and came home and took a nap!

It hasn't happened yet, but I'm treating myself to yellow curry (and maybe some rolls!) for dinner tonight.

I can predict the future.

Waking up to a message from a friend I haven't heard from in ages --- who sent special birthday wishes for my grandma, who turns 91 today.

I used to bike in snow for fun pretty often- it's thrilling. The road is empty, transformed from your daily boring commute to this otherworldly, silent world where different moves are possible. I figured with a bike, i was prepared to go down, and dressed for it (just like snowboarding- protection). Less potential for damage and needing rescue than when I was out fourwheeling with the truck in the blizzards in new england [which was also fun, but much more irresponsible, which was why i only did that once, and not on a public way].

Alexandria has to have some great Mexican, Honduran, and Guatemalan restaurants somewhere. Along route 1, there are dozens of them, and most are probably owned by native chefs, so I'd imagine they are authentic, especially since they would have a large clientele who likely expect authentic food.

There are good Egyptian restaurants in Annandale, but I don't remember the names. It would always be a bunch of old guys with hookahs watching soap operas and me in there. If there was nobody else to act as waiter, whoever had to do it would get annoyed and grumpy at missing the soap opera bits. Surly service aside, the food was great.

Every time I want to try one and see what is vegan, I have no idea how to pick one, so I go to Chipotle or something. Sad, but true.

It is mostly snobbery on my part. I'm very picky when it comes to Mexican food, even if it is made by natives. Although "Mexican" around here usually means Salvadorean. Not that Salvadorean food isn't good, it just isn't Mexican.

Sure, but there are so many that it stands to reason there are some gems. Maybe the Mexican ones are Salvadorean. After I typed that, I realized that I couldn't think of any Salvadorean restaurants even though there is a high population (much more than Mexican, I think). Of course, I'm just basing this by places that include this info in their signage.

What are the differences between the cuisines? I don't really know.

For me it was a challenge and partially a promise I made myself.
After all I did buy an extra motorbike for winter use, so I'll use it.

No, I am a bit hesitant to glue a mount on the ($ 500) helmet I bought in spring.

I didn't fall but I also rode stretches with both feet on the ground.

In the Netherlands it's seen as tricky but normal to ride a bicycle in these circumstances.
For the most part of my 1.5 mile commute I didn't go faster with the motorbike as I would have done on a bicycle.

With all the gear I wear on the motorcycle I'm probably more safe than on a bicycle with jeans and a fleece hat that protects my head.

My comment pretty much encompasses both of those things, since that summarizes the stuff my dad does. Or did, since he doesn't anymore.

I showed my dad the photo and he told me a new story.

On an icy snowy day, he decided to find out if he could ride his Triumph up and down the biggest hill in town. He was around 19 at the time. He got his bike up the hill after a few tries that all involved high speeds. But at the top, he belatedly realized that it was probably a Bad Idea. So he spent a few hours walking his bike down an alternate route, going miles out of his way to be sure he wouldn't be seen (he had a rep to uphold, after all). I'm guessing he was more worried about the paint job on the bike than anything else.

He has other stories, most of which have my mom and I sitting in stunned silence with our mouths hanging open. The man has always been unbreakable though. He once slid quite a ways down a highway and then into desert wearing a tee shirt, got up, brushed himself off and said that was fun. Not a forking scratch.

T'lish, if you want to see amazing web cam motorcycle rides, check out Dragon footage.

The Dragon is a super insane curvy stretch at the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a huge attraction for bikers (and sports car owners). The speed limit is only 35, but it's still plenty dangerous. Floor board scrape city!

Molly is sneezing! She is the sneeziest little bird in the universe today!

I am so relieved that her birdie nose is getting cleared out finally.

She is also super snuggly. This means I am getting bird sneeze mist on my face, but I guess I'm ok with that.

I want to see my awesome friend do it :)

One of our friends rides and his joke is that he wears out the sides of his boots before the soles from all the scraping.

I got drunk and went to see Flight, a movie about an alcoholic pilot. No irony there.

Best thing by far. Especially when Agnes has been super sick and it's been terrifying and she hadn't been tolerating Olive coming near her at all.

Awww, I want a kittie. I'd name him Karl after Charlie Marx.

I'm still super conflicted about cats though. I don't know if I should: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22037&start=25

Well I started that thread and I think about it plenty but sometimes love overwhelms logic. Agnes especially is the most important thing in my life. I can't imagine life without her at all.
