I got to talk to Wilson today!! He was completely exhausted, but sounded in really good spirits. He had his Visa interview in Friday, and he's very happy with how it went. Now all we need is to get the petition for the waiver approved, and he can come home!!!! Oooooh yay!!

I know, I can think of several Canadians I know who would tell him exactly where to stick it. there are all sorts of accuracy problems with the graphic, but i love it anyway. [courtesy of FC, who tells me it is from a Russian anime?? or an anime about a Russian person who has invented a land where all countries are people? or something? i'm afraid to ask for more details lest i get a three hour lecture about anime, as usual.]

My sister had my second nephew last night. It's great, yet sad at the same time because he'll never meet his other aunt.

<3's, fatcat. my didi came over today - more backrubs! she also sang archana=a long sanskrit thing for me, which was super sweet. my other didi is going to try to come out later this week, also for backrubs and singing. (didi #2 can really sing! this is a recording of her singing opera a few years ago. her voice is even more amazing now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1u0x5fqTmk )

My gran's got Alzheimers and was hospitalised for 2 weeks this December. She used to live in her own house, by herself still, but in the hospital it was clear that she would not be able to go back there once she would get out. There was even talk of her having to go to a closed ward, specialised in people suffering from dementia. However, my mum just called: The temporary revalidation/care facility where she stayed after being released from the hospital, decided that she was good enough to go to a normal care home instead of the dead end closed ward. I'm so happy. In the care facility where she is now, my gran is housed with a bunch of other old people who suffer from mild afflictions. (My other gran has Alzheimer too, and she's in one of those closed wards, which are absolutely terrifying and so sad.) So yeah, having a regular schedule to her day and being in the company of other people a bit more, did wonders for my gran. She's been eating better than before and she enjoys doing care home stuff like playing bingo and stuff. <3 SO HAPPY !

That sounds like a great change, Paloma! So happy for your grandmother. Best part of my day is that this guy came to live with us: His family isn't able to take care of him anymore, and since he's 12, they were having trouble finding a home for him. It's a sad situation but he seems to be settling in well, and I'm so glad he didn't have to go to a shelter.

I spent several hours cleaning my room, managing to remove 4 garbage bags of mostly paper stuff (I seem to have held on to every paper from high school French), and while I'm far from finished (clothes tomorrow...), it feels awesome to do things after sitting/laying for a week.

I'm really pleased for your Gran, Paloma. Being unhappy in a nursing/residential home can really cause dementia sufferers to deteriorate so it's great that she's happy where she is :)

Espresso! I got an espresso machine for Christmas (an inexpensive DeLonghi) but haven't had the proper coffee for it until today. I tried using the grinder they have at the grocery store to grind up the whole bean espresso they sold there, but it was too fine and wouldn't work, so I went to World Market today and got some Illy pre-ground coffee for espresso machines to take the guess work out of the equation. It brews beautifully! Woohoo!
I probably should put a burr coffee grinder on my wish list for my birthday. :)

Just watched the 'Fast & Fresh with West' video by Misha Collins. It is, quite possibly, the most adorable thing I've seen all week. And that family is just beautiful. (non-vegan food involved, although you do get to see a 2 year old eating brussels sprouts, broccoli & green beans. And a plum)

I have about $190 more than I thought I did. I feel so rich! This is finally the month where I'm all caught up from no money summer with everything and can pay my phone bill on time instead of two days late in my next pay period.
Some of that I need to give to my mom since she bought most of the groceries over the holidays, which is one reason I have money left. Also: the time off work for the holidays and a break from spending all my money on gas. Even with my overspending to get my hair done.
Now I can stop pulling from my savings (the moneyndiverted from my paychecks) and start saving so I actually have enough money over the summer.
Also! My Harley title came in the mail yesterday. The only thing more exciting would be riding the damn thing. This summer, I swear to God, I am riding that thing if it kills me. But now that I am caught up with my immediate financial worries (student loans don't count since if I keep teaching, Ill never put a dent in them) I can probably afford to join the wellness center for water aerobics next month.
Now why do I feel the urge to splurge on something? I'm such an idiot. I do NOT need a new lipgloss to celebrate financial semi-solvency. Strawberry rock, did you resist your lingerie splurge? Can you be a good role model for me?
(okay, deal with myself. If I don't spend money on anything stupid or unnecessary before my next paycheck, I get lipgloss. This means no iced tea because I forgot my water bottle. No snacks because I didn't make lunch. No $2 vegan candy bars when I go to Wegmans.)
Nicole--that sounds like amazing news. Thinking happy thoughts for you!

I did actually! I put stuff in my basket and then panicked about my $8000 of credit card debt and $20k a year income and the $500 I'm spending on getting color done on my tattoo in a few weeks. I want it SO BAD though.
