As much as I also think this is very disgusting and annoying, I imagine it's not so much a waste because I would assume they are using the grease that burger joints ultimately toss.

That picture showed a pile of burgers next to the "painting". I assumed the artist was...I guess rubbing the burgers on the canvas?
