When do you hear back from them, smoooooooothie? / Arg, reorganizations are terrible. (They can eventually be awesome. But it takes such a long time.) Luck!

I'm not sure when we'll hear back, but I assume it will be at least a few months (I know this place - it's fundamentally disorganized. Mails disappearing, problems with getting my courses approved because of bureaucratic problems etc.) - But I'm really counting on getting in. If not, I am probably going to be really annoying until they move me. When you're the little man, sometimes you've gotta yell to be heard, you know?

My grad program continues to suck at long term planning, and I continue to earn points in the "wrong" categories. So even though I am doing things which are absolutely relevant for my project, I might not end up with a graduate certificate in Neuroscience because of it.

lutin that makes no sense!! why are they being butts about that?

I'm in a really stupid position where i'm writing a paper and it's fine, I have maybe 2 more pages before I'm done/pre-edit but I keep getting distracted because I am holding down FURIOUS ANGER the whole time i'm writing it. I am so so mad about the professor who teaches the class, every time I think of him reading it I'm just like "ugh fork him I don't care about anything he has to say"
I just want to get as far away from his idiotic sexist racist and dated bullshiitake ideas about art. It's boring and useless and there have been 20 years of really amazing and innovative and intellectual discussions about art since he changed his forking notes for a contemporary theory class. Even though I am doing quite well in his class, I'm sO MaD that he will have any say in my grades/career/experience at this school that I just want to stop going to his classes or doing his assignments because frankly he isn't worth a second of my time.

I've been in universities of one sort or another for almost 7 years and I have never met a professor who has his head quite this far up his asparagus before. it is detrimental to students and the fact that he is tenured in a group of 15 faculty superior faculty is ridiculous.

I mean, here's the thing: this is a graduate MFA level class that every single person in my program has to be in for an entire year (2 semesters!!)
He lectures without citing any theorists, his slides often misattribute artists to their works, he assigns only 4 readings over the entire year and they are all pre-1960 and written by white men.
he lectures his opinion as fact, never mentions the authors he is quoting directly, keeps us 4 hours (of a 2.5hr class) without breaks and does not allow questions or discussion of material.
last week out of 25 artists he showed slides of, 2 were not white and 0 were women.
he grades paper on TONE instead of CONTENT.

I'm slotted to ace this class and the second those grades are in and I never have to be in his class again I am lodging a formal complaint with the head of the program, this is a sham and frankly is insulting.

Ugh Boober, that sounds infuriating and horrible!

I am having anxiety about this article I read a few days ago that basically said that after 1 year post graduating 50% (!!) of all architects still have no job. HOW WILL I EVER PAY MY RENT?!

I don't complain here much but...GUH. I'm weeks from a deadline for graduation and my job needsneeds me to graduate, but my thesis discussion IS NEVER RIGHT. First she tells me to add some sections, I add them. Nope. Why so many sections? Tells me to put in more discussion of other species...then she complains about writing about other studies?

And now..."I think it could seriously be just 4 paragraphs." REALLY? Why didn't you tell me that 5 rewrites ago? "I feel like I keep repeating myself." Yeah, right.

WAAAAH

Wow, I would definitely be unhappy about that lycophyte. "Why don't you just write what you're not seeing?!" I mean, seriously, ugh.

I go back and forth about a lit review I wrote which was published last year. Currently, I don't hate it ---- because a scientist whose work I like (and may have even cited?) casually said in a meeting yesterday that she'd read it and found it useful. Best part? She didn't even know that I was the author! I mean, she knew who wrote it, and she knew I existed, but hadn't put 2-and-2 together, so it's not even like she was trying to earn ("earn") brownie points. Yay!

I have marked over 40 papers since the end of February - and there's still more papers to mark. Aaaaaaaargh. My brain hurts.

I have a pile of student essays silently reproaching me from my desk, but I'm ignoring them until the weekend because I'm on break this week and planned to get a shittonne of writing done. So far I've gone to two parties, made Irish stew and soda bread, done a bunch of laundry, and put some of the relevant books into a pile. Yay me?

And in all my period induced dumb-brain-and-sadness I f-ed up and erased all my work today opening and saving the wrong thing! FORK! So, I get to rewrite it. I'm almost done, but it would have been great to have already sent it last night instead of today being the redoredo.

eta- not all my all my work, but the work I did yesterday. Luckily its only a few pages and paragraphs...

Woo Cour!

My advisor liked my most recent draft enough that its just doing edits instead of "rewrite the whole thing."

YAY! Getting the full draft to the committee by this weekend! Defend in the next few weeks.

Yay, lycophyte and couroupita! \o/

I marked the last effing paper! And today is the last day on my admin job. I can't wait to get some serious academic work done.
My plan is to spend most of the weekend sleeping and just generally relaxing, and then I can finally use all my energy for the things I really want to do. Like writing four conference papers and two articles and restructuring my book project.

So it turns out I'm graduating next spring, which means I can apply for grad school this December.

I'm kind of freaking out. I need to take the English lit subject test in addition to the GREs, and looking at the practice test sent me into a panic. Lit grad students out there...advice? On that and the application process and stress? I'm an over planner, so the sooner I figure things out, the better. I know where I'm applying and what they require. The rest is tests.

yay lyco and cour!

I am living for the summer right now and totally can't begin to process how much work I need to get done, I have like 60 pages to write, a sculpture to finish for the first-year show, packets to make for my panel reviews, several books to read, and work 30hrs a week every week for the next 3 weeks, but by the 1st of march i'm pretty much done.

hoping I don't crash and burn!
