I'm working on the weekends. I have to finish an MA-thesis sized thing before the 21st. (A "first year report" which - in my case - is more like a "3 month report".) I'm cross-eyed from looking at data. Good news: the first chapter can be submitted to a kick asparagus journal for quick publication. Not so good news: the second chapter is based on a 40-page long excel file that hurts to read, let alone analyze.

This is getting spectacularly dull. Just hand me the piece of paper and let me start my new job already!

Okay, I just finished the first of three seminar papers due between the 15th-20th, and I actually think it's pretty good. Aside from the fact that I still have to write the other two (for one of which my...er, "thesis" is extremely shaky), in addition to some remaining reading for this week's classes, I'm feeling rather pleased with myself. Then again, that might be the sinus meds talking. Or the gin. Whevs. Congratulate me on 1/3 of a job well done before I have to tackle the next part!

Got the go ahead from IRB to start data collection, meeting with my advisor Friday... Scary! I can't tell if I'm relieved or stressed out that christmas is falling right in the middle of this so no one is going to be around to interview anyway.

I guess I'm doing interdisciplinary work, but it's mainly policy focused.

I turned in one 25 page final paper today. Another due on the 16th. Between now and then-- grading papers, exams, and tallying final grades for the class I teach (100-level Women's Studies, always a blast).

Good luck everyone!

Thess, I don't know what interdisciplinary consists of, can you tell me more? I am excited to learn about degree with which I'm unfamiliar!

As for this evening, I just turned in a 15 page this evening, and have a 20 page due tomorrow. Blegh…finals.. I never learn, I've had the whole semester to get going on these!

Allison, Women's Studies! That sounds amazing, what are you covering?

Yay for everyone who is kicking asparagus and submitting things!

I just finished my first exam...I have another one in 6 hours. Ugh. my hand hurts from writing. I know I got 1 question partly wrong on my exam this morning. And I was the first one done with 40 minutes left. I am 99% sure I passed, but I thought I studied well so we will see..ugh. On to Constitutional Law!

So, I think you all will find this particularly funny since everyone understands the pressure of finals week.

Instead of doing my papers/final work today I am sitting in the ER waiting to have my appendix removed. I am more upset that this happened during finals week than anything! haha!

Oh, man! Take care PJ!

Me? I am so impressed at how productive I am! Today I: made a website for the fancy int'l workshop I'm co-organizing; prepped the call for applications; did fancy faculty contacting stuff; did some Giant Table of Doom analysis; started to learn Tamil; managed to do my dad's forking difficult google scholar searches; designed (ish) my winter study; edited a bunch of other shiitake. Also, no migraines for the second day in a row! Rock it.

I have a presentation tomorrow, haven't finished the slides yet. Wondering if I will have time to finish it at work/lunch tomorrow before class. Let's see... this is 20% of my grade for the class. Then the paper due next Wednesday is 25% of the grade. Then I am done 4EVER!!!!!!

It's a class called "representations of women" so we started by reading stuff that talks about the construction of binary gender and patriarchy, then move to discussing how women are represented in a variety of contexts (religion, work, advertising, pop culture) and how this creates and maintains social norms. It fulfills a global understanding requirement for the undergrads, so I tried to create comparative connections between US practices and those elsewhere (specifically outside of the West), as well as including considerations of race, sexuality, class, and body image. I decided to finish up with a discussion of feminism and postfeminism and the need for continued political action to promote equality. Wow. That feels like a lot. I think I made them work really hard.

Good luck with your appendix and finishing your work!

Do we have a PPK proofreading group?

Christmas is coming! (NB I'm generally resistant to the doom-and-gloom rhetoric viz. "OMG I'm so oppressed by this funded program that I worked so hard and was so grateful to get into where I get to read and write all day OMG it's like slavery's been reinstated and I'm working on a chain gang for Stalin," but this did make me laugh in the midst of my end-of-semester writing frenzy!)

Just the thread I was looking for!
Be my witnesses, ppkers.
Tomorrow is a public holiday, and I have two abstracts to write.
I will get at least one of them done tomorrow (or Sunday at the latest).
The one that's more important to me.

How did it go?! Hope you're doing ok!

I need to make a schedule or something. I'm incapable of balancing RA work with my own work for some reason right now.

So how messed up is it that I'm way more stressed about my oral medical Spanish exam tomorrow than I am about any of my science-y medical school tests? It's in front of my whole Spanish class. Hooray for public embarrassment!

Good luck and glad you're almost done, kimba!

Good luck to everyone. Still struggling through my last essay of the semester. Uninspired and uninterested makes for a tough writing week.

Hi all,
Thank you so much for your concern! I am doing better now, and they decided after the ct scan to diagnosis me with something other than appendicitis, endomitriosis. For this, the said the only certain cure is taking out my ovaries. Perhaps needless to say, I did not have that done right then. I have to go to one of their doctors in 2 weeks to see if I need a non-emergency surgery to take out the endomitriosis and the cysts that were growing around it. :(

But, on a better note my teachers are all being wonderfully caring about this.

Thanks for caring everyone, its really nice to know I have support here!

Hope all your finals go swimmingly
