I'm sitting here waiting for an important phone call and I can't relax. I called the office of the notary that's handling the purchase agreement on the house I'm hoping to buy, to see if the adjustments made by the real estate agent are ok, and one of her office assistants said she was in a meeting and would call me back. That was 4:30 this afternoon. Now it's 7 pm. Earlier this week she called me at 8:30, so even though it's past office hours, she might still get back to me. But it's the last small hurdle before I can sign the agreement on Monday and I won't be able to relax until I hear from her. Lard, I hope she calls tonight or I'm going to have to go through this again tomorrow.

Why oh why can't I shut my brain off from worrying about things?

Totally unchoked a child for real for the first time. I've been with plenty of kids who started to choke and coughed and took care of the problem themselves, but this was the first time where a kid clearly couldn't breathe. Over in a second, thanks Red Cross, but now afterward I'm all anxious.

My housemate's cat is trying to make out with me.

You are a hero! I'm glad you posted this, because it's made me want to brush up on what to do if poopiebaby starts choking so I don't have to panic and try to remember what I learned years ago.

The two most helpful things I learned from my last instructor were that 1) in most cases a back blow or two will take care of the problem and it's super rare to have to go onto the next step (which just makes me less anxious to know) and 2) the guidelines say you only turn kids sort of upside down until they turn 1 but that's just so the guidelines are simple and easy to remember--if you can take advantage of gravity you might as well. I grabbed T (20 months) and slanted him downward and did two back blows and everything was fine. But yeah, everyone review!

I am so happy it's all blizzardy! We lost power at work so I came home and now I need to round up the rest of my snow gear and go for a walk in the woods.

Well done StrawberryRock! I just went for a CPR refresher course on tuesday. Even though we don't deal with babies or kids at work it is still part of the course. I pray I never ever have to use it.

This evening I put up and decorated the Christmas tree. Every year I forget that I am not the kind of person that finds this a calming, peaceful and stress-free experience.

That's awesome s-rock. I once had to act fast & get an ambulance after that move didn't work on a child in my shop who'd swallowed a lollipop stick & all. They turned blue by the time the ambulance arrived but they were able to save him. It was terrifying though!

I have a donkey pinata. it was the most expensive wrapping paper I've ever bought. christmas is saved!

I'm lazy about getting rid of junk mail, so it piles up until I get around to shredding it. I've had one weird blue striped envelope with a pink window that looked like those stupid credit card scams that try to trick into thinking its a collections bill.

Turns out, it was full of gift cards from Amazon. My poor aunt was worried they had been lost since I hadn't said anything.

Maybe I should examine my mail more closely in the future.

RINGWORMAGEDDON 2012 UPDATE: The pestilence grows worse. I don't know at what point you decide that what the pharmacist told you to use isn't working and go to a walk-in clinic.

I have to share this because it is hilarious but also because I'm trying to figure out what to do. My mom and stepdad are facebook amateurs (but the fact that it changes weekly, doesn't make me much better). Anyway, my mom posts on Facebook with her friends, my stepdad uses my moms facebook account to play facebook games. By looking at my mom's page, where it shows things you like, I saw a picture of a girl with non english writing (and not something either of my parents would know). So I clicked on the page to see what it was and it is a middle eastern girl with various seductive poses, nothing is in english. So I think somehow my stepdad found this page (probably from an email from his friend) and clicked on 'like'. The funny thing is if my mom finds out she'll be furious but I don't know how she won't find out because it seems the girl posts semi regularly various pictures of herself. Part of me wants to 'unlike' it when I get on her computer so that she won't get mad about it but really my stepdad should get his own facebook page.

Molly is a bad, bad, mean bird. I was letting her sit on my bowl so she could have some of my couscous, spinach and tofu (thanks mom; since I feel like crepe, I was planning tortilla chips for dinner). Now I notice that what Molly actually did was systematically chew off all the crispy bits all around each piece of tofu.

I don't think I like her anymore.

One more day of work and then I go to Costa Rica!!!

ETA: Annoyed at myself because I can't find the wall charger for my iPhone & the batter re-charger for my camera. (Which I've known has had unknown whereabouts for a while but did I look for it before tonight??? Noooooooo.

How exciting! My hubby is there right now. He's coming back tomorrow!

So I got rid of my cable tv last week because I'm never home to watch it anyway and it's like, $60/mo on top of my internet. So I got n-flix for 7.99/mo but I sort of miss being able to watch more current television sometimes? I don't need it to be live, so does anyone have experience with internet-based tv that I can get through a wii? Is it worth paying for?

I don't know why my dog is so fascinated by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. She's so weird.

I started getting Hulu on my AppleTV box so I can watch Bones and Castle. I wasn't sure I needed or wanted both, but it's cheaper than buying the seasons ($7.99/month, I think).

I don't know if it's on Wii though.
