Avocado intuition is the only fruit intuition I have! I regularly buy mealy apples, hard as rocks pears, stringy mangos, flavorless melons... I even buy in season and still fail at it. Avocados and bananas are the only ones I ever get right. And bananas are kind of a gimme, aren't they?

Two days off work has me spoiled. I am dreading going anywhere today. Mostly because the high is 20°F and I hate it. I HATE WINTER. Shew, glad I got that off my chest.

i know everyone's talking about the weather right now, but damn all of a sudden it's COLD! We have no where to keep our air conditioner if we take it out of the window in our bedroom, so i just covered it up with a towel and a garbage bag and duct taped the shiitake out of it. Then i realized that a lot of the cold air was coming from the crack at the top part of the window (the top of the open bottom half of the window) so i shoved a towel in there and taped it up. I hope this helps us not to freeze to death in our sleep!

also our electric blanket stopped working!

That sucks, idji, this kind of weather requires electric blankets!

We have a hole in our wall where the air conditioner goes, and you can see cracks around the opening to it, where the wind comes in. Considering it's -27C/-17F right now, that sucks. It's probably that cold where you are too, since NYC really isn't that far from here.

Ugh. I keep getting phone calls in the last week from what I can only assume is a debt collection company looking for someone who is not me and hasn't had this number in at least 6 years. Today they called at 5am!

oooh my cell phone line had some very angry people who wanted to talk to Amauri. For about three years. Haven't heard from them in a while, they'll probably call me at 5 tomorrow!! They were so sure I was hiding him or something, too. I'd say, no, no Amauri here, and they'd be like, no, we're sure he's there. uh huh.

That is the absolute worst! And they don't believe that you're really not the other person, because the person has obviously been dodging their calls or whatever. I had someone calling my work extension so much that I pretty much just flipped my shiitake. I tried to transfer them to HR, but of course I can't work the phones correctly and just hung up--further making me look like a conspirator in some random kid not paying his bills.

Omg, pp. It's 20 F here! No where near -17. That is so cold! 20 is super cold to me, but also it was 50 F two days ago, so I haven't really had time to adjust to this.

Yes! We were in New York this weekend for my birthday/Fred's show and it was gorgeous. On Sunday before we left, it was nearly 60. When we got off the plane in Chicago, it was 16! And today it's 0! Fork that shiitake. This is why we're moving.

It's about 20 degrees here, and my dad left the house and I guess the door didn't latch when he shut it. I didn't notice because I was in my room, wrapped up in a pile of blankets. I finally went downstairs and the door was wide open and it was so cold! The downstairs is freezing now!

My friend is here but he's irritating me for some reason so I'm hiding in my room. It seems nicer than telling him to fork off, since he hasn't actually done anything. The fact that he's here means we're going to pick up textbooks today. And I don't wanna.

Also, called my boss, who apparently wanted to talk to me despite my discomfort doing so with the splint. Looks like I'll be calling her the day after splint removal to let her know what's up, and then I'll be closing the next day. I was almost looking forward to work but things are different now and I have no idea how I'm going to get through a day there, let alone three. I have very little energy lately.

In any case I'm seriously considering quitting before summer. It'll be a little awkward, I'm sure, as work crush is leaving around May as well, but that place makes me miserable. The thought of going back there to have meat flung in my face and all over my clothes makes me want to cry.

I do not envy you, northward friends. It's 20 here and that's enough to make me want to cry a little.
In other news, I have at least 3 packages supposed to arrive at my house today, and I'm all tense hoping they get here before work. It totally doesn't matter, I just like getting things! And one of those things is a new backpack! From timbuk2!

It's 3 C (37 F) so I feel kind of lucky, but it has been extremely foggy for the past couple of days and I was really nervous during my commutes home. Also, I don't remember what it is like to have a sunny day.

Arrgh, the story of our goat made the news at noontime and they used a picture of the goat and Tegan together and I had no idea it was going to be on at noon so I completely missed it! Maybe I should record the evening news, just in case they run it again.

It's 20 here, too. I was basically crying frozen tears on my walk to work this morning. Should have risked getting a parking ticket and just parked closer. In the midst of all this, it turns out that my electric problem is entirely me and my heat, so I'm keeping it pretty cold in my apartment, because I can't stand the idea of paying $200/month to keep a one bedroom warm. It's just ludicrous.

I was alone at work with nothing to do for the first three hours today and was really getting into this book I'm reading, and then this guy comes in for the last hour of work (I mean, he works there too), and instead of just letting me sit quietly and read, he insisted on talking to me for the entire hour. Like, when there was nothing else to talk about, he'd be like, 'Sooooooooo, what else?' And I just wanted to say, 'Nothing else! Shush and let me read!'

I would probably seal those cracks with clear silicone caulking.

In my house I have done several windows that way, it can make a lot of difference.

All you people bisqueing about the cold, feel sorry for me instead! It will warm you up. Some jerk off kid pulled the fire alarm today, so we had to stand outside, no coats, for 20 minutes. My back hurt all day from the standing, and the cold made my arthritis awful. But, I think the epidural has helped me recover from crepe sooner, because I'm not too bad now that I'm home.

But, yeah, miserable.

Even worse: the poor kids who were in gym in shorts and tees. Yikes! I felt so awful for them. They had to have been absolutely frozen.

Am I mean for hoping that the arm puller ends up failing the test they were probably trying to avoid anyway? Always at the end of the quarter, like clockwork.

All these posts about freezing weather make me never ever ever wanna leave California. My hands and feet are already cold as it is!

I am super stressed today of the irrational shaky twitchy hovering on the edge of panic variety. I just finished deriving electron degeneracy pressure expressions from fermi gas properties. Can I somehow convince my brain that the astro problem set and I need some time apart now?

I know the instructions say to leave immediately, but would always take my coat with me.
(it hangs close to my desk anyway)

- the coat could give some protection against flames if the fire is for real
- my house/bike/car keys are in my coat and if the building really is on fire I'm screwed cause I can't go home.
