My dad thinks the texture of the vegan diner seitan roast I made, is similar to the clootie (sp??) dumpling my nan used to make and he thinks I should try making a sweet one! Sweet seitan... Madness or genius?

I feel like a PPKer tried that during Mofo one year, but I can't remember what the results were. I am helpful.

I think you could do something Asian-inspired. In Japan the glutens always came with a super sweet sesame sauce. It felt like dessert.

One of our students punched a window in anger and broke it. The lesson was going really well up until that point. choirqueer wrote: kilgore trout wrote: I feel like a PPKer tried that during Mofo one year, but I can't remember what the results were. Well, clootie dumpling isn't that sweet. I think my nan's only used to have about a tablespoon of syrup in it. Of course it was forking gross, but that's not the point! haha.
I might make some chocolate seitan, a small batch, just to see how vile it is. And if it is inedible, make my dad eat it as punishment for his suggestions!

I've just remembered, because I'm stupid and tired, that I put golden syrup or brown sugar into almost every seitan thing I make. Lots of savoury things have a dose of sweetness in them, just like lots of sweet things have a pinch of salt or something sharp in. If you made a red wine seitan, with a lot of soy sauce, a little golden syrup, smoked salt and cocoa powder, I reckon you'd have a really nice... something.

I have my headphones on to cover a co-worker on the phone, and I'm starting to get a headache. And I can still hear the co-worker. I would post this in 'worst things' thread, but I'm really trying to not let myself be so annoyed because my reaction to stimulus is the part I can control. It's not going well.

I only have to work for an hour today, and it is being the slowest hour everrrr! In order to keep myself busy until my friend comes over for dinner, I am going to:
Go to the library and rent 3 movies. Because I get overwhelmed every time I go to do this, my new strategy is to only pick movies whose titles start with one letter of the alphabet. Today is A. That way, I'm limited and not as paralyzed by choice? We'll see how it goes. I hope there are 3 good movies that start with the letter A.
Walk Rowdy, since it is actually warm-ish here today.
Call all these places I need to call for work, which I have been putting off for a couple of weeks. Phone anxiety will not defeat me today!
Thoroughly clean my apartment.
Surely those things can fill 6ish hours.

That is my problem! I want to order it in bulk because I don't want to buy just a little shake container of it. Where do you buy yours from?

i got my bulk nooch from bulkfoods.com. i got 5 pounds, which was probably a mistake because that was A LOT. Do you have any vegan friends in your area? if so, it'd be an awesome thing to share. I think it came to about $6 a pound, which is much better than the $10 a pound it is in NYC.

My housemate found this huge container of nooch somewhere by her mom's place in Westchester, NY. It works out so much cheaper than the WF bulk bin or the shakers. So now we share.

'A' movies that I acquired:
Admissions, About a Boy, Absolute Power.
According to my friend and librarian, me doing this is nothing original and people do it all the time!

dumb problem: i want to switch to verizon fios because they have a pretty cheap deal right now that's like half of what i'm paying for cable. but BBC-America is only on their "extreme" tv line up, which is way outta my budget. if i can't watch Doctor Who, it's kind of a deal breaker. I can give up cooking channel, but not Doctor Who!

Is it online at all? Or do you have a Whovian friend nearby that has BBC America to watch with? sounds like the perfect excuse to have regular doctor who parties.

online where? like illegal download online or on the BBC-America site?
ETA: i didn't think BBC-A had that stuff online, thats' why I'm asking. If they do, that would be cool! Or if Hulu had it...

There are a few other things we like to watch on BBC-America, too, but they'd come to DVD eventually.

I am cooking a recipe for dinner that serves four. There are only two of us. I am telling myself there will be leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I think I am in denial.

From what I can tell, Amazon has some tv shows for free (if you are part of Amazon Prime) but newer episodes you can pay for or alternatively, if you aren't part of Amazon prime, then you can pay for the shows.
