I made a detailed To Do List, for when I go back to work next week. (I've been out with Oral Surgery Hell™ for almost 2 months.) It's about 100 items long. That's a lot of forking items. A lot of them require talking, which is awesome since I can't talk for another fortnight or so. >.<

I'm angry at pinterest because of pins that make divorce seem shameful.

I baked a potato for lunch, but while it was baking I ate pita bread and hummus... so I wasn't hungry for my potato when it was finished.

I really should stop snacking whilst cooking...

I think I got the kitty drinking! I got a kitty fountain but he didn't like it. I figured out that what he liked was dripping water, which the fountain didn't do (it was a cheap one) so I took the pump to a hardware store to find tubing to change how the water would fall. But then the pump broke, somehow? Anyway, I picked up a replacement, attached the tubing, and then the kitty went crazy and drank from it for 5 or 10 minutes straight.

In the morning he usually meows a whole lot, and tries to lead all awake humans to the bathroom sink to turn on the tap for water. Hopefully now his water needs will be more or less self sufficient (other than refilling).

Ripping up the upstairs carpeting has revealed a history of bad floor-related decisions that occurred in this house:
1.) Let's just use really cheap, splintery wood for the upstairs hallway. No one cares about upstairs hallways.
2.) Wait, I can make it even better. We'll paint it red! A shade of red that will never go with anything, ever!
3.) The stairs should be yellow though.
4.) fork, that looks bad. Let's cover part of it with a carpet.
5.) Still bad. I know, let's repaint the hallway floor grey! Remove the carpet? Nah, we can just paint around it.
6.) fork it. We'll just cover the whole thing with wall-to-wall carpeting. It's not like someone will decide to tear it up in a few decades and uncover the disaster that is this floor.

Does anyone know if Isa still has a column in Bust?

NuSTAR is a sexy, sexy project. This is all.

Pretty much everything NASA does is sexy. Too bad the American public thinks that NASA is a waste of space and undeserving of funding.

Barring a disaster I'm working on NuSTAR this summer.

It is sad that nobody wants to fund science anymore. Give NASA the forking money already!

It's not so much a science funding issue as the fact that a large % of the American public is illiterate and thinks that NASA is an expensive luxury that does "cool" stuff, but nothing useful.

People also think that funding NOAA is kind of dumb and the National Weather Service should be privatized. Nobody realizes that these agencies impact us all positively every single day. Due to defunding, the best weather models for the east coast US are now the European models. Ting is, those satellites are optimized for Europe, not east coast US, so we don't benefit as we would from our own proper satellite.

We are also stupid when it comes to mothballing things. Lots of programs get hard shut downs, which doesn't allow for restarting with a reasonable cost and time scenario. A prime example of this is Yucca mountain. That was a hard shut down, with studies abandoned, data improperly catalogue and stored, staff dispersed over a short time frame. Thing is, deep earth repository for nuclear waste is as good an idea as any other (and better than our current method of "short term" storage on site). When people get their heads out of their asparagi and realize this, it will cost more to restart the work stemming from Yucca mountain than was saved in the hard shutdown.

It's 9.30, I have three loads of laundry to do before bed, and I just discovered we're out of laundry detergent. All of my warm sweaters (the low tomorrow is 3F) and jeans are in those loads, along with our sheets because we are apparently still children who only own one set of sheets. And I work at 8am. Fuuuuuuuuuuuh.
