DC, I totally get that. I've lived alone before, but now when my husband is gone I sleep with the hall light on and basically just sit around imagining all the horrible things that could happen to me alone. I also don't really cook for just me and end up just eating toast and popcorn. It makes me feel really crappy about myself sometimes!

Ugh, I am so bad at cooking normal foods when Jay's away. I just snack and snack. Totally toast and popcorn. And potato chips. And then I start to feel sad and lethargic and I wonder why.

I had a dream last night that Betty White had died. I'm really glad that it appears this is not true.

If you have an injury that prevents you from wearing high heels, why wear them? And when you do, why come complain to me? I swear that is the worst thing right now. A friend has a number of health issues that could be eased if she would just stop doing certain things. Like... going vegan helped her fibro so much that she was almost a different person. It lasted less then six months. I guess some people just want to be miserable.

Wearing crappy ugly shoes every day sucks. Sometimes a girl just wants cool shoes. Of course, the complaining part is dumb.

I'm wearing my tall boots with the 3" heel today. That heel height works ok for me as long as I'm not doing a lot of walking or standing, which I can't do anyway. So, yeah, wearing them takes a toll, but every couple of weeks, it's nice not to feel horribly dowdy.

Believe me, I get it. I have a closet full of shoes I don't wear because the cost to my health is too high. It is just a constant thing with her.

And to be fair it probably would not make me nearly as pissy as it does if she would quit trying to tell me what to do for my health. I have a number of health issues that she critiques me about, all of which I am actually doing something about.

I guess I just don't get the attitude of knowing what makes you feel better and refusing to do it. Being vegan literally cut her pain out almost completely. And she went back and is paleo.

Ocht, you can call wee skinny fries chips here! No one goes into McDonalds, for instance, and asks for anything but a poke of chips!

There are at least 7 veg places on the agenda. Apparently it's only eating a few each shared though? Not a whole serving per person!

A little late, but the expression "a poke of chips" makes me really happy. "Poke" is also a super Appalachian expression; I'm guessing because of a lot of Scotch Irish settlers. A poke of chips in WV would be a packet of crisps though.

Ha! My body does that, too.

Also, that sounds like one hell of a delicious potluck. When I hear "potluck" I flash back to jello salads and mix cakes, not ginger beer and chocolate-dipped florentines. Go you!

My dad just helped my gran make the most atrocious jello salad for her Eastern Star meeting. He kept calling it 'salad,' too. I was like, nope, that's not salad, that's a crime against humanity.

You, lady, are just not trying. You don't win the marathon just by rocking up on the day with a pair of daps in your handbag - you need to put in good, solid hours of training. Now get your finger out.

Woo! the manager got back to me and i have an interview this week! just need to confirm a time, but if i could get a job before I go visit my family for a week, that would be the best thing ever. Not getting my hopes up, but this is definitely the best chance i've had at a job since I know this place likes to hire entry level people and train them and three of my school friends work there.

I have been looking at new phones and service for weeks and I think I've settled on 2-3 phones, now I just need to choose one. I've been researching them for over 5 hours. Does anyone use Virgin Mobile or have used it in the past? What was your experience like?

I use Virgin Mobile! I like that my service is only $25/month (although I think they may have changed the cheapest plan to $35/month, but I still get the other one since I started using it last year). With that, I get 300 minutes, which I rarely use all of, and unlimited text/data/web whatever. If I had a smart phone, it would be totally awesome, because I'm always hearing people with iPhones talk about how Pandora uses up all their data. I can't afford to actually buy a smart phone right now, but there are some decent ones (mostly Samsung?) for Virgin Mobile. I also rarely have problem with service, and I live in West Virginia. Granted, I do live in one of the more populated areas here, but I don't have problems with it when I got visit my parents in nowheresville, either.

My one complaint: Their website SUCKS. It is basically impossible to use on a mobile device (when I try to use my iPod touch for paying the bill), and it's not intuitive at all. For example, I wanted to get a plan with more minutes last month because I knew I was going to have to use them for calling around for job-related stuff, so I paid the higher amount. And then I still just had 300 minutes, with a 20 credit for the next month... Turns out, you have to tell them you want to change your plan first, then pay the higher amount. That may seem like, duh, to other people, but not for me, especially since there isn't any button to click in the payment area for changing one's plan.

Anyway, aside from that, I really love it. It's mega cheap, and when all you're doing is texting, like me, it's such a pain to have to pay for more minutes than you need.

Thank you! You just made me feel better about switching over!

I've had a long, long day. A fairly huge number of fairly key people in the learning support department were away today, so we were all kind of bumped up to the groups that needed the most support. I spent the day with a group of four really fantastic young adults with fairly severe learning disabilities. We did careers stuff, then cooking, then art.

They're great, and I was happy to help out, but you have to be running at 110% the whole time and my brain has lost a cog in the process.

Yay, interview!! Good luck, IDJI! Thinking all kinds of good thoughts!

My students are in standardized testing today and tomorrow, so I'm using the little windows of free time that this has freed up for me to get ahead. I'm determined to make this week of mope into something productive so that I can properly enjoy the boyfriend's presence when he returns. I have printouts and FIVE COLORS OF HIGHLIGHTERS. I am making unit plan magic over here!

I've been following England/Wales' same sex marriage parliamentary debate all day (watching it now on tv now that I'm home from work) and every 4 minutes I'm either "GRAAAAAGH! STABSTABSTABBITYRAGE!!" or "AWWWWW,SNIFFLEAWWW,YAY!" It's bloody exhausting.

I followed the NJ Senate genderless marriage debates the same way! It feels like such a no-brainer but people say some really astoundingly ignorant things.

I did the opposite and lifted some weights. (5 reps of...) 60kg deadlift and 45kg dumbbell bench press ain't bad for someone who has barely lifted a beansprout since before Christmas! I'm all enthused and stuff. Woop. Etc.

Today, roommate and I got up at eight am to finish cleaning the old house (after being there until midnight last night).
I am so exhausted. We gave him the keys and loaded up the last bit at 10:00. We basically just had insanely heavy furniture left to move, so we're both all jelly-like now. And yet I still have to go to the DOL and renew my license, go grocery shopping, and clean the house.
So...tired...want to nap...

My cousin who has lived in Glasgow all her life is coming over to the states to pursue her career as a chef in Portland, OR! On her way there, she will be coming to see me. I'm not-so-secretly hoping that she convinces me to move with her. Also, now that she's a proper grown-up (24! Hard to believe!), we can totally get into some major trouble once she gets here. Yay for corrupting the young and seeing family that I haven't seen in 7 years!
