I cooked a batch of chickpeas yesterday and they came out juuuuuuuust right. Lovely and tender and perfect with very few broken beans.

A follow up to my quitting-your-awful-job question:

How do you explain the gap on your resume if you are out of work for a while? I feel like it would be inappropriate to tell the truth: that I quit because my boss was a total crasshole who was making my life absolute hell.

You could say that you left because the company "wasn't a good fit" and wanted to explore other career options. Which is more or less true if you forget about how horrible your boss is, right?

Maybe everyone was just trying to ease my fears, but I was told by a lot of people while worrying about The Gap that companies are really understanding about gaps in resumes right now while unemployment is so high. I mean something really big - like a ten year gap - might make them ask, but a realistic looking-for-work gap isn't a big deal. And sure enough, no one I interviewed with asked about mine.

So many red pens have died at my hands. I am the Red Pen Grim Reaper. I'm going to make a little pen graveyard next to my desk.

Yeah, I thought about posting that the other day... because it is hella cute. But... that the pony is part of a stud farm and all the stuff about the hair extensions and stuff... i dunno.

The cat names at my work are getting increasingly inventive and now it seems that some of the cats have acquired titles (Lard Grayson, Lady Ragamuffin, Dame Bigglesworth). So I said the cats should star in a Downton Abbey parody show called Meownton Abbey. All of the non-titled cats could play the servants. Everyone thinks I'm nuts, but come on, wouldn't that be amazing?

I know what I WANT to do, but I keep talking myself out of it. I'm pretty sure I'm never getting out of there.

It's always the night before my 8am shifts when I have the hardest time falling asleep.

I have a lovely human sleeping in my bed right now. It's kind of awesome.

I would love that! I imagine them wearing tiny fancy hats on grand occasions. One of the two cats we adopted came with the name Princess, so we added Queen in front of the other cat's name, as she is quite regal.

I have been trying to dress a little better for work. Yesterday when I looked at the outfit I thought I might wear I realized it reminded me of the one Julie Andrews wore in the Sound of Music when she arrived at the Von Trapp house, the one even the poor didn't want. I guess I still resent not being able to wear my work boots and jeans every day.

I, too, have been trying to dress better for work. The environment here is pretty casual, but I want to set myself apart from my minions (3 work-study students) a bit. I'm 30, but look much younger (according to the world, I don't really think about it that much), so when I just wear my usual uniform of jeans, a t-shirt, cardigan, and chucks, I look just like them and nobody treats me with any respect. I'm not a student and I run the gallery, yet the other faculty (like the dean of COFA) still seem to think I'm just some random wasting my time in here. I waited on him and his wife at the pizza place once, and a couple days later he saw me in the gallery and was like, 'Oh! You're a waitress, right?' And I wanted to be like, 'AND I run your stupid gallery, dude! Respect!' But I didn't. So now I wear dresses and skirts and nice shirts and better shoes. We'll see if it works.

Oh, also I just had the best sandwich for my second breakfast: multigrain bread, chickpea cutlet, smooshed avocado, lettuce, tomato, and maple mustard. zomg.

I think I've posted this elsewhere on the people, but my parents live in a rural area with a lot of semi feral cats (who they try to trap to get spay/nuetered, and they also feed them), plus some house cats. My dad wanted to make short films about the cats, in which each cat would have it's own story, and of course a theme song. You could probably bring him on as a producer, or something, since he has a great passion cat dramas.

I just ordered D-Mannose and Grills Gone Vegan from amazon. I blame the PPK.

The looking/dressing young thing is an issue for me too. Some of the front desk staff STILL don't realize that I am a teacher and not a student, even though this is my second year of teaching here. Parents give me respect via email and over the phone, but then when they see me face to face, it goes down. It's so frustrating.

My students have presentations today and a bunch of them wanted to come in to finish their posters this morning. They begged me to come in early, saying that they would be here at 7:30. So, despite being up till 1AM grading, I hauled my butt out of bed and left my apartment at 6:30 this morning so I could get here by 7:30.

The first student showed up at 8:08. I want to scream and cry. I skipped showering because otherwise I wouldn't be out of my apartment early enough because I was having a hard time waking up because I only slept for about 4 hours and just... ARGH.

I am tired and irritable. Grrr.
