I went to a party last night because a friend/co-worker's band was playing (on a Sunday! I'm tired), and I felt so out of touch. I'm 24 and husband is 31, and most people there were clearly younger than me, so definitely younger than him. I felt like I was at an Urban Outfitters photoshoot. In case anyone didn't know, the 90s are definitely a thing again, but mostly among the people who were too young to remember them.

So, my lovely Scottish cousin is coming this evening to stay with me a week! I kind of wish my week wasn't so busy (preparing to teach the bean class and baking one million things for our WVBS), but she's handy in the kitchen, so hopefully she'll be down with spending most of our time cooking. But, so also my dad is bringing her and he's staying the night and wants to meet my guy. I'm a little nervous about it. I pretty much never think about the age difference anymore, unless it's through the eyes of other people. And even then I don't usually care, but I worry that my dad is going to say something dick-ish. Because he usually does. Love him to pieces, but goddamn, he has become a grumpy gus over the past few years.

I sometimes shop at American Apparel because I like their hoodies, socks and undies, and last time I was in there it was full on 90s fashion and they were playing 90s dance! I was totally in my glory. Then I realized that those things are retro now and that made me feel weird, I'm not even very old (28)!

I think I woke myself up in the middle of the night answering a question someone asked me in a dream. I don't think I've ever done that before. I've definitely farted myself awake, though.

I spoke to the recruiter about that proofreader job, and she's gonna put me forward for it! I really hope I get it.

When I was a kid I totally used to fantasize about ending up in a world like Narnia, or going off on an adventure like the Famous Five...but then I used to worry so much that they wouldn't have any food I could eat! Except turkish delight and ginger beer.

Not crazy. I mean, I think everyone does something dishonest once in a while but it's the bragging about it that gets me.

Exactly. I've done dishonest things but I'm ashamed of them because like...I'm normally a good person so doing the bad things makes me feel bad. I think it's the next logical step to assume that someone who brags about dishonesty is normally pretty okay with being dishonest and is probably not the kind of friend who will be great to have around long term.

Or it could just be an immature fluke, but that doesn't mean you have to like it.

I saw a pic of someone (recently) wearing a babydoll t with a spaghetti strapped tank dress and some kind of like, lower cut Dr. Marten type oxfords. It was epic.

My students made me so angry today. It's almost like they don't want to pass.
It is not like we are learning new material. We are preparing for the test that will determine which classes they will be allowed to take next term. It's the same skills we've been working on all semester. If they don't pass, then they'll have to repeat everything! And they just don't care. I'm sorry but I give a shiitake about their future, even if they don't! I know I teach the lowest reading level students but it doesn't mean they can't do it, it means they have to work harder than everyone else. No one is going to just give them a passing grade.

Anyway. Hope y'all are well. Haven't been on here in ages. Miss you guys.

Ummmm I wore all of that in college. My coat of choice at college was a cut-off studded leather biker jacket with fringes and lots of heavy metal T-s. I wish I had pictures. Leela would probably laugh her butt off one day.

Yup, yup. Except most of mine would only need to exert a minimum of effort.

Had a conversation last week with a smart kid who is lazy, lazy, lazy. He won't graduate without passing my class. I sent letter home, counselor talked to him, I talked to him, and he finally started getting to class on time (instead of 30 minutes late). He won't do a thing except sit there, and he expected me to praise him and give him credit for having gotten up early enough to get to school on time. Yeah. No.

Aw! I'm sorry. I meant that it was epic in a good way. She looked awesome, and I definitely used to wear the same thing back in the day. Only think missing was the flannel tied around the waist.

Yeah I love it, too! I feel pretty sexy when I wear my AA boy undies. With knee high socks. Rawr.

When don't I pretend I'm in The French Lieutenant's Woman?!

Also, my clever cunning boyfriend found a fossil and some fool's gold.

I can't believe the nineties are retro! Well, everything is sooner or later. I remember thinking the eighties were like the fifties (don't ask me why I think this--I think what I mean though is in terms of art/cultural movement/young folk/status quo thinking of those two eras) and the nineties were like the sixties (more rebellious, experimental, discontent). It's too soon to say if this means the 00ties were like the seventies...

Well, unnecessary war, economic stagnation, polarizing/divisive political figures. It has all the hallmarks.

I came home and took a nap - it was maybe an hour and a half. I could totally go back to sleep, but I have to stay up to take my laundry out of the washer because I forgot to put it in when I got up from my nap and didn't start it until about 10pm.
