I can't believe the nineties are retro! Well, everything is sooner or later. I remember thinking the eighties were like the fifties (don't ask me why I think this--I think what I mean though is in terms of art/cultural movement/young folk/status quo thinking of those two eras) and the nineties were like the sixties (more rebellious, experimental, discontent). It's too soon to say if this means the 00ties were like the seventies...

It hit me when they started playing Nirvana on classic rock stations: I'm not as young as I used to be.

I had some sort of Nirvana-related age record screeching halt the other day, but darned if I can remember what it was.

That made me laugh out loud.

ETA: also the google image search for this is fun because a lot of happy babies in the pose came up.

i thought happy baby was a variation of Gas Relieving Position. We used both very successfully when our girls were little.

Last year my students told me I was "cool" because I was listening to Nirvana. I managed not to laugh at them too much. They were in awe of me for an entire 3 minutes when I told them I'd seem them live.

...what.

I can't decide if this is ridiculous or awesome or something I want to do or something that kind of upsets me. I suspect I'd try to hug the cat AND the dogs all at once and everything would end in chaos and tears.

I wonder if its a California thing because all the fashionistas I see are rocking a more 70s look (I guess at least the girls are, I dont really look at guys), Those weird short shorts that ride high on the hips and make girls look like they have cow butts all long like.

also LO forking L that people pay 60 bucks for that bullshiitake

If the 90s are coming back I better see some Jimmy Z's being rocked along with body suits and those forking awful jean overalls everyone wore.

Image

The only retro thing I dig is the ladies shaving half their heads thing. I always found that look quite sexy.

And I must be super hip because I DID just buy a pair of Docs last year after almost a 20 year haitus....granted theyre dress shoes instead of 14 hole boots, but hey a dude in the professional world can still be totally edgy.....of course who am I kidding, I dress like Im living out of a car (too dirty to be a slobby beardo craft beer hip guy but too clean and unfashionable to be a crust punker thing), much to the occasional chagrin of my girlfriend

also with the 90s music coming back it seemed more to me like people of my generation had reached the age where they had given up being progressive and listening to new music and gotten old and boring and regressive into that "I only listen to the shiitake I liked in my teen and early 20s because I am now past new experiences and just on the down ward decline till I get cancer"

Although I called it a few years back when I said Death Rock, Gothy, Synth stuff would become the new thing and Im totally right since scenes are popping up in all the major cool cities with bands doing those things (and a lot of it rules too), Im ging to jump on the Industrial reserrection bandwagon super quick and try to make a few bucks for myself. Im thinking I need to do an evil sinister Skinny Puppy sorta thing mixed with a real aggressive dance vibe to capture the mainstream mouth breathers, smell ya later suckers

RIGHT? I've noticed a bunch of hipster-types at the local goth night lately, instead of just the 40-something "old school" goths and 18 year olds who bought a new outfit at Hot Topic just for the occasion.

Poopie, that's fantastic! Hah!

I'm grumbly because I could've gone on a run and been done and showered at this point in my day, but my roommate begged me to get him to run with me, starting today. So I'm wasting away on the sofa, waiting for him, trying to avoid drinking more coffee.

Haha I never noticed the short shorts/cow butt similarities!

My university is riddled with teens dressed in the worst of AA/Urban Outfitters ridiculousness and it's always fun to see who's gone for the head-to-toe 90s revival look. I think the most incredible thing I've seen is a patchwork stonewash batwing jean jacket.

I'm waiting for school to release our test grades from last Thursday. Not sure when it'll happen exactly between now and this Thursday, but I always feel like I'm in limbo until I find out my score. Like, I can't start studying for the next test until I can put the previous one behind me. I really do want to be productive, but it's just not happening.

Magic! Right after I hit submit, they sent us an email saying grades had been released. Whew. Glad that's done with.

Speaking of the 90s...

Yeah, I'm seeing the same types of videos and "remember the decade" checklists circulating now that I saw years ago for the 80s.

I love that the nineties are retro. Because I finally feel like I have a retro. I know I will never be young enough or old enough to be handed a socially acceptable hip nostalgic era, and I'm fine with that. Bring it on, Spice Girls. I was born in '82 and the nineties were my formative years!

That blows. :\ Enjoying the scenery (and writing) is a pretty excellent outlook, though.
