Fork people who cancel plans at the very last minute. My time is valuable, at least to me! Sitting around waiting for something that never happens is not my idea of a good time.

This seems to be happening a lot lately. Or people just not showing up. Right now I'm sitting around waiting for a friend who made plans with me to hang out at 5pm today. It's now 5:40 and I haven't heard from her. I called her cell and left a message 30 minutes ago, asking to please call me and let me know whether we're hanging out or not. Nothing. I have things I could be doing right now! Another friend contacted me an hour ago, and I said I couldn't hang out because I had plans. So not cool.

This is completely my biggest pet peeve and it has caused me to quit being friends with people. Although I'm pretty sure they didn't care because they were always canceling on me anyway. My best story about this is when I had plans with a friend and she didn't contact me all day, so I called her and asked if she still wanted to hang out. She said yes and that she was about to hop in the shower and would call me back when she got out. And then she never called me back. People who do that are such wusses! they figure "well, their feelings will be hurt if i call and cancel and if i just stand them up, so it's easier for me to just stand them up." Ugh! People!

I have had other friends that canceled a lot, but they always told me at least a few hours before. That can get annoying but it's so much better than getting stood up.

ETA: i hope you find something fun to do tonight, RC! putting up halloween decorations sounds awesome!

I'm stryggling to finish my 3rd vodka and coke. I'm officially world's biggest lightweight.

Yeah, I just want to know if plans are happening or not. Even if someone calls at totally the last minute and cancels, that's annoying, but at least I'll know and I won't be sitting around waiting all day. I don't understand when people don't call or text or email and just don't show up. My friend never called! I'm especially pissed off because one of my other friends wanted to meet up and take our dogs for a walk together. If I had known my original plans weren't going to happen, I could have gone with her. Instead I rushed through my afternoon to get ready to go out at 5, and then nothing happened. Whatever. I did have fun decorating part of the house, and I'm thinking of making an apple crisp now.

We're taking on six more cats-one I adopted, one is a foster and four are long term boarders. I am worried about how everyone will get along and whether they will be freaked out by my dog. They've all lived with dogs but small dogs, not a big clutzy Catahoula who thinks herding cats is her job.

My camera was stolen today (see worst things thread) and I need to release a bit. Yeah, I'm going to be a bit suspicious and extra careful in this city, but I'm not going to let it ruin my trip or make me interact with people differently. Many of the amazing experiences I've had were because I trusted people when many people wouldn't have. If this is what I get for being relaxed and not suspicious when I travel, then so be it. Now I know to back up my pictures more frequently and that I did everything else right (didn't have my passport, credit cards, or anything that would have been a big hassle or financial risk with me).

I think the hotel owner feels worse than I do. He is so sweet and has been so helpful with my motorcycle paperwork and then filing the police report. And the fact that I am staying in a safe hotel instead of a hostel here puts me more at ease. There is a super small chance of anything I leave here being stolen.

My mom, brilliantly, told me to take photos with my iPad mini. Like having that out in public won't make me a target for theft! It is locked up whenever I am not using it. No way would I carry it around town. She would be a great target... trusting and naive.

I got a liter of wine and will crack that open after dinner. New camera is ordered and will be here in a week with my boyfriend when he comes to Ecuador. Deep breaths... this city is overall okay. And improving my spanish will make it even more okay. And the next few days while I am here will be spent studying since there is not much else to do here!

Thanks for the space for a long vent. My friends would want to help when there is nothing they can do.

i've had solid plans to meet people somewhere, texted them when i got to the place, and then gotten a text back saying they'd completely forgotten about it. one of my friends is especially bad about it and has spaced on stuff we'd bought tickets for in advance. sometimes it's o.k., but sometimes it's kind of not. like, if we were meeting for dinner or drinks and i've already gotten a table, it's awkward to have to sit there by myself waiting (or just walk out if the other person has decided he/she can't make it anymore and i'm not in the mood to eat/drink alone). i'd so much rather get a last-minute cancellation than an after-the-fact "oh, right, you exist." i'm getting better about letting people know when i'm leaving my apartment, just in case, but it bugs me that i have to do it.

Holy moley I feel so exhausted right now. Like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, emotionally. Bad combination of stressing out the last three days about my relationship combined with the past couple days at work we've been short staffed, so it's just been me making the department run. I really feel like my brain weighs way more than normal right now.

When I was walking around in Brazil, especially in less safe areas, I would take my SD card out of my camera and put it in an inside pocket, so that if my camera got stolen then at least I would still have my photos.

If looks could kill you would be a newsie. You're a shotgun, bang! (Um something, thang) I want to know--how does it hang? Straight up, wait up, hold up, Mr. Lover. (Something, something sexy mother hubbard). Well I like 'em real wild, smooth black skin, and a smile...

Needless to say, I fully support this endeavor. And may join you as I'm feeling rusty.

Mars, as a moonlighting rap battler, I can tell you that Shoop is one of the easiest songs to learn and an excellent choice for you. It was my first many years ago and it is still one of the best songs. When you do it make a video and put it here. :)
NDP-- I'm sorry but I'm kind of hysterical at the thought of Salt n PePa singing about a young Christian Bale in a newsboy cap singing with other dirty-faced and good- hearted boys trying to sell some 'papes'. It's 'Uzi'! Hahahha best ever

That is a good idea. Previous trips I only used one sd card a week so at most I would lose a week of pics. I guess all the travel I've done without problems made me complacent. Back to being more vigilant!

I found a bag of chickpea flour about to go past its best-before date and I was making bread anyway so i had the yeast out, so I decided to see if I could make yeast-risen chickpea pancakes, and they actully seemed to work! Usually experiments I do of that type are horrible failures, but this is edible! Needs refining but that's okay, I've got plenty more flour and yeast...

I am not good at lyrics, and people who can instantly and accurately ascertain the mumblings in songs absolutely fascinates me. How do they do that? Do they have better hearing? A firmer grasp on the song's context? Just pay attention better?

It's got to be a combination. It was only yesterday when Some People came on the radio, and I listened to it for the first time in about fifteen years that I realised Cliff Richards was singing "hurt in the other one's eyes" and not "hurting the other one's eyes". I always hated the song so much it obscured what a weird thing that would be for him to be singng before!
