At the airport, I was kind of surprised to see vibrators at Brookstone.

I would be surprised as well. I always assume that anything purchased in the airport is for the purcahser's in-air entertainment. I mean, I know that's incorrect, what with all the liquor and extravagant jewlery and whatnot, but it's what is in my head. So yeah, I'd be pretty weirded out by that.

Wasn't that a sex and the city episode? Samantha thought a neck massage wand was a vibrator and tried to return it after it stopped working.

This bothers me/perplexes me more than it should so I'm coming out with it. Is putting the comma after the quotation marks acceptable now? I know certain punctuation marks go after the quotation marks at specific times, but I'm talking about the Jeopardy style of quotation mark/comma usage. I see it more and more.

Example:

"the cat is in the hat," she said.
versus
"the cat is in the hat", she said.

or

"Breaking Bad", "Walking Dead", and "Mad Men". I thought the punctuation (including the period in my non-sentence) would go inside the quotes.

I think you're correct, but I'm not 100% certain. I think what is absolutely certain is that many grammar and language rules have fallen quickly by the wayside in today's txtng world. I recently learned that many schools don't even teach cursive anymore, which seems completely nuts to me! My friend's grandkid couldn't read a card that she'd written to her. Think of all the historical documents that the coming generations won't be able to read! It'll be like heiroglyphics or something. So weird.

In your first example, the comma goes inside the quotation marks because it is direct speech. In the second example, the commas outside the quotation marks are correct because it is a list.

Edited to say: strictly speaking, there should be no comma after "Walking Dead" because it is the penultimate item in the list.

Yesterday I meet an uber-christian lady who was also an uber-racist. She was all "Jesus this" in one sentence and "those blacks" in another. I mean like, she doesn't even realize what she's doing. It was bizarre. She would go back and forth talking about Jesus and prayer and then say something racist. The two topics didn't even go together; she's go from religion to racism. I was uncomfortable.

This is so common* in southwest Virginia. I swear this state should be chopped in half so the north can go join Maryland.

*obviously tons of great people live in SW Va, but crassholes are an everyday encounter.

My neighborhood/city/county is full of Cuccinelli signs. As I drive to work, you can see the gradual shift to blue.

I have had enough of incompetent people.

For the past week, I have been repeatedly asking two people at my company to please track down some documents for an audit. They spent most of that time ignoring me, and this afternoon one of them actually yelled at me and hung up the phone when I called to check on the status.

I finally gave up and requested the documents myself. It took one forking phone call and the docs are on their way by tomorrow morning. Totally simple.

This is so forking infuriating. I cannot delegate anything to anybody, apparently, because nobody forking cares.

The rule varies by country. What Jogirl described is UK English. In American English, the punctuation almost always goes inside the quotation mark. There are some exceptions for things like question marks if there's a possibility of confusion.

She's my cousin's best friend too, and I could tell that she was uncomfortable too. She seemed like a nice, fun lady, but boy don't get her started on anyone non-white or not born in American.

I LIVE FOR THE OXFORD COMMA!!!

Also, never put commas inside quotes when discussing tv shows or movies or anything if it's not part of the title! Ahhh!
