I came home from GED tonight and found Molly with peanut butter breath. She keeps conning my dad out of peanut butter cookies! At least they are nutter butters, so they are vegan.

He tried to deny giving her any, but peanut breathe doesn't lie!

D and I went and foraged a big box full of chestnuts today. He shelled them (from the crazy prickly shells), and now we're making chestnut butter. We're also soaking beans and have overnight oats on the go. I have bourbon, and he has a beer. We are domestic superheroes. Oh, and we came in $8 under our weekly grocery budget. Clearly, we are as gods.

That sounds awesome JoPa! Sweet chestnuts are amazing, and I am drooling at the thought of chestnut butter!

We have an Ohio Buckeye tree in front of our house and I've had to stop 2 separate families from foraging the chestnuts, believing them to be edible. Foraging is awesome, if you know what you're looking for!

I don't understand why some people use the word "noodling" instead of "thinking". "Noodle" is, and always will be, ONLY a noun. You know how some people react to the word "moist"? That's how I react to the word "noodling". A couple of years ago, I worked in an office where about half the staff said that - I think that's at least 50% of the reason I quit the job.

When I was a kid, if someone said "toodle loo" to say good bye, a vivid image of noodles would spring to mind. I haven't thought of that in years!

Because noodle is slang for your head or your brain! As in the saying "use your noodle."

Pasta is pasta. I get so confused by pasta being called noodles. Because I LOVE noodles and the sauces/accompaniments/cooking methods involved in noodles, but pasta bores the shiitake out of me nine times out of ten. There, I said it. I kind of hate pasta.

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/use+noodle where it says -

use one's head and use one's noggin; use one's noodle
Fig. to use one's own intelligence. (The words noggin and noodle are slang terms for "head.") You can do better in math if you'll just use your head. Jane uses her noggin and gets things done correctly and on time. Yes, she sure knows how to use her noodle.

I too do not like to hear 'moist' ... whenever I hear it I feel that what they are describing is 'wrong' to be moist ...

I left work early because I felt like crepe. Now I'm waiting for my sandwich of rashers and hash browns to cool off enough to eat. You know, because food is medicine.

Noodles are long and thin and usually Asian. Pasta is the rest of it.

Perhaps, perhaps. I even managed to cart it to the boyfriend's place without a pie carrier (balanced it between some kitchen towels in the passenger seat) without breaking too much of the crust. Also, it's tasty. Also, I still have a fever.

Pasta, for me, is Italian-y. Noodles are all other things in...noodle form. Obviously, I am quite the clear thinker today.

But what about spaghetti? It is pasta but also noodles. What about chow foon? It is an Asian noodle but it isn't thin.

I'm not a fan of long, thin noodles, Asian, Italian or otherwise.

Me too. I only really cook it because I figure everyone else likes it.

I do have a few exceptions though. Like the tempeh meatballs and spaghetti from Isa Does It (I figure it made it in the book) was sooooo good. I mean, I love pasta then. But the kind of pasta you make to please picky folks, default pasta something with just plainish tomato sauce? Nah. Never anything to get excited about. Unless the tomatoes are REALLY GOOD. Pasta's safe and not always too exciting.

I use pasta to refer to spaghetti/similar noodles and call everything else noodles. I didn't know there was really a difference.

One of my coworkers is obsessed with the no honey issue. It was amusing the first time we had the conversation but that was about 2 weeks ago...I guess I'm going to go through the PPK and get sources for him.

I could have sworn I once read a Sophia Loren quote: "There is a hunger that only pasta can satisfy." But now I see no corroboration on the internet that she ever said such a thing. So now I'm saying it. There is a hunger that only pasta can satisfy.

For me, if it's in an Italian/European styled dish, it's pasta. If it's in an Asian dish, they're noodles. Short pasta (penne/shells/macaroni) is always pasta. Noodle soup and noodle kugel are the only exceptions in my food vocabulary.

If it's fusion, it's anybody's guess.

Last week I heard news that a semi-homeless schizophrenic guy who is sort of a regular at our office (some of the attorneys have done pro bono appearances for civil disobedience stuff he does) was hit by a train earlier this month and lost half a leg. We're discussing it at work and someone pointed out to me that if you Google his name, a man by the exact same name (including same spelling) was struck and killed by a train across the country in PA exactly two weeks later.

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

It just seems like a pretty arbitrary distinction to me. I would call stroganoff a noodle dish, since it's made with egg noodles. Tuna noodle casserole. A lot of Eastern European dishes are made with noodles.
