If you fry your doughnuts you don't need a donut pan!

I feel ya. I started having an allergy attack the evening of the 23rd and have felt unwell in one way or another since then.

And on that note, I'm still trying to decide if I actually have the energy to make donuts because I slept really badly from first sneezing for an hour right before I went to bed, then being blocked up and waking up what felt like every 10 minutes. And I kinda split my lip from the sneezing/sleeping with my mouth open and drying out. It's 11.40am and I'm meeting someone at 3.30pm, so I'd have to be done by 2.45 because I won't be able to do any other baking after that.

And yes, sweet_potato, get thee to the city and get some delicious donuts from Dun-Well and The Cinnamon Snail. They are the stuff of dreams. I'm still kinda kicking myself for not getting a s'mores donut from CS because they couldn't tell me for sure if they had nuts. They probably didn't!

I am quite sure they have them at Through Being Cool, the new vegan bakery on Bloor West.

Yes! They have soooo many doughnuts! Bloor/Landsdowne - I'm going today!

That's the way I do it when I make fried donuts. Also, you can bake yeast-raised donuts without a form. You just have to cut them into donut shapes. Or you can leave them as a lump and use a pastry bag to fill them with jam, buttercream, or custard.

Just use a deep skillet. Baked donuts aren't real donuts anyway. I have one of those cute little donut makers and, while good, they aren't donuts.

If you want baked though, you can shape your dough into rings or just make doughnut holes.

I wasn't home for trick or treat, but my apartment got egged. I guess no one else have out candy? It really bummed me out, because my landlords are this sweet older couple who live on the first floor, and I hate to think of someone doing that to their home. I tried to scrub it off, but it seems like it's stained. Maybe I'll google to see if something cleans it better than hot water and soap.

Yeah, alla this. I think a deep fryer for donuts is kinda overkill, anyway.

What? That's awful! I'm so sorry to hear that happened. I hope you can find a solution so that it doesn't have to become something expensive!

What is with Boston and idiotic behavior lately? It's making me sad.

i found out earlier this week that my quasi-abusive ex just had a baby. i hope he doesn't imbue the kid with too much of the fucked-up worldview i witnessed during the 3+ years with him, and that he's not being a shitbag to his wife.

URGH - Orion just ate a jar of coconut oil. There was maybe 2/3 cup in there. I found the jar in his crate just licked clean. I feel so dumb. I'm usually really careful about not leaving food within his reach, but I've been using coconut for my dry skin and as the dog has never been interested in cosmetics I didn't think to put it away high enough.

At least it's not bad for dogs, but I can expect some very well lubricated shiitakes. And hopefully luscious hair.

I was out walking my dog and saw someone walking a chihuahua who had been adopted from the shelter several months ago. He is the cutest little dog with big buggy eyes, so I named him after Kermit the frog. When I saw him, I started shouting, "Kermit! Oh my god, Kermit! You look so good! You are the cutest little guy! How are you? Kermie!" and then I remembered there was a human on the other end of the leash. A human who looked confused and slightly frightened. So I said, "Oh, uh, I work at the shelter he came from. I remember him." Probably should learn to talk to the human first.

I'm really bad about saying hi to people's animals before the person, if I even say hi to them at all. Most of my regular customers don't care, but it's kind of awkward when they introduce themselves, and I just kind of ignore them and talk to their dog before realizing what I'm doing. Oops.

ferreal. I'm so disappointed when the vegan restaurant here has donuts and then I try one and I'm like "THIS IS CAKE SHAPED LIKE A DONUT!"

Cake is also delicious. Cake is not a donut.

there's one place that I've had baked donuts that were super good. but most are a huge letdown.

I'd still take a baked cake donut over a yeast donut any day. no question.

Can cake doughnuts and yeasted doughnuts just get along? I mean provided that they're all fried though.

This. And baked doughnuts. I'm an equal opportunity supporter of baked goods and frozen novelties. Actually, maybe I should change my name to Vegan Mikey.
