So sorry blondie xxx

I finally gave blood this evening for the first time. I was fine through the whole thing then when they put me sitting at the table with a drink to recover I started feeling very light headed so to avoid hitting the floor I said it to the nurse. I was totally mortified when she shouted out COLD COMPRESS!!! and the other nurse came running. Apparently at this stage I was trembling and they moved me to a bed to lie down for a while. Very embarrassing since it is held in a function room of a hotel so everyone got to witness my wussy behaviour.

Since then I've had a complete and utter aversion to sweet stuff. I'd had some fizzy drinks and chocolate before the donation but since I feel real woozy every time I even thing about sugary stuff so I had to stop off at the shop to buy some salty food.

I'm so sorry blondie, that is awful.

I need to stop looking into purchasing health insurance while at work because I will have a panic attack EVERY TIME. Nothing like sitting at your desk covered in sweat hoping no one notices that you are unable to do any work because you think you're dying!

Also, health insurance is terrifying and I can't afford it and I can't afford not to have it and everything is the worst.

People need to stop asking soon-to-be graduates what their future plans are. I didn't know in undergrad and now I really don't know in grad school. The only future plans I have are hibernating, knitting, and anxiety-attacking. Maybe if I'm feeling really ambitious I can make a blanket fort to hibernate in?

I never knew either. Something will come along when it comes along. Knitting is a great start though ;)

Can someone help me make a grown-up health insurance decision please?

$120 a month for $1300 deductible, $6350 out of pocket max, $40 specialty office visit, $10 generic prescriptions, 10% of outpatient labs, x-rays, scary stuff (ambulances! hospitalization!)

or

$128 a month for $1000 deductible, $3000 out of pocket max, $60 specialty office visit, $15 generic prescriptions, 20% of outpatient labs and scary things

Both the same for primary care visits and therapy and both have no prescription deductible.

So basically the first one is better if nothing horrible happens to me because the prescription I need would be $10 and specialist visits are only $40 (before I reach the deductible too, and I definitely want to see a neurologist and a dermatologist this year, if I can actually afford it) but is it stupid to be happy with those pretty small savings when the difference in the out of pocket max is pretty big? Like if I get cancer I'll probably be mad about that. (Or, um, anything, since I hear medical bills are ridiculously expensive, I've just never had to deal with it because I have had the best insurance ever for a while.)

Also I might decide that I can't afford any decent insurance at all and just get catastrophic and take Excedrin migraine instead of real migraine meds.

No need to apologize! I think you are safe here talking about cat issues - anyone is. I felt pretty 'safe' posting Mar stuff when he battled cancer and kidney disease, stuff I did not post on my FB because no one on the ppk (to my knowledge) would say - just get another cat, or to give up...

This. The PPK is such a safe place for animal friend issues. There's no other group in my life who understands like PPKers that our cats, dogs, birds, etc aren't just toys that we play with until we get bored or inconvenienced.

I would go with lower deductible and limit. I think if youre generally a healthyish young person the chances of getting cancer or something are not as big of a concern, but i worry more.about getting hit by a car while biking and having to go to the hospital and having it be really forking expensive, so thats why i opted for a lower deductible thing myself. Either way i think the best thing i did while picking an insurance plan was to let myself have one night of stressing out, then i just picked one and out all the other plans out of my mind so that i cant feel like i made a stupid wrong decision about it later. I really feel that all the "choices" that are really not ALL that different anyway are just to purposefully make you feel responsible and stupid for whatever you have to pay a lot for, thereby distracting you from hating on our broken healthcare system.

You're totally right about all of it.

60 vs 40 for a specialist visit and 15 vs 10 for prescriptions does seem like a big deal to me when I have so little money though. Maybe just because 60 seems like so much money. (Twice as much as what I have to my name right now!)

Daisychain there's no shame in feeling faint after giving blood, you can't control what your body does. Mine just doesn't like it at all. I got dizzy and nauseous every time I tried (3 times), after I threw up on one of the nurses I decided they probably don't need my blood that badly!

Thanks dropscone. I still have my sugar aversion. I was feeling fine this morning, had a sweet and now I feel a bit ick.

Worst part is I can't go on a decent walk today.

Thanks for all your support guys. It helps to have a place to talk about it where people get it. Daniel didn't make it. I am heartbroken.

Oh Blondie <3

And yes, never feel guilty. Most of us have pets (or have had pets) and we know how they touch our lives.

Strawberryrock, if you think you'll see two specialists this year, that wipes out at least half the savings of the cheaper plan, so might as well get the better plan.

So sorry, blondie.
