The last time I was in Portland, the friend I was with just had to stop at the food cart that was artisan cheeses. I nearly through up listening to the guy.

But then, I have vegan brie in my fridge and I made it by myself. I am an artisan!

Yes. This is a really great read about the unlikely origin. http://www.psmag.com/navigation/health- ... aze-72676/

I think I would eat that if you subbed a vegan hot dog and croissant.

My favorite cat has an application that looks solid. I was sure he wouldn't be adopted (14, solo cat) but there you go. So even though he I'm happy he has a home (probably) I'm very sad he's leaving.

Yeah, I'd eat the vegan version. But here's my problem with it - WHERE DOES THE forking CRONUT COME IN?! A cronut is a cross between a croissant and a donut. There is no mention of a donut in that description. The author is just pulling buzzwords out of their asparagus.

i think a cronut is essentially a deep-fried croissant with some sugar on top. are these high-end pigs in blankets deep fried? ARE THEY? GIVE THEM TO ME.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! I'll try this weekend. (Too bad it's not from a tv show; I haven't written for Giggles in...months.) Except for the housemade salt (to me the most nauseating part of that nauseating quote). Unless it counts if I exercise first and just sweat onto it? That sounds about right?

ha ha, i think "housemade" applied to the beet chips, which were seasoned with salt and vinegar. but if you agree to try to make sweat salt, i'll season something with my gourmet sundried tears.

Click the link! There's a picture- the "bun" is very cronutty, in that it's super layered and flaky. Don't get me wrong, this thing sounds delicious, if it were vegan. It's just, well, pb put it best:

Wow, that is really interesting. I'm glad that she got the proper credit, and it seems like the toast is doing what her cafe set out to do (get people talking to each other)

I really enjoyed that article. I just loved that when I started reading I was somewhat peeved by the pretentiousness of the cafe and its menu, but the author turned that on its head and showed that the cafe is actually exactly the opposite of pretentious. That's what good journalism is about.

I heard the Toast story on NPR a few months ago. They had Giulietta on the show telling her story, i found it really inspiring how she basically created her own village from nothing and has so many people looking out for her now.

I love that fully half a paragraph of that article is devoted to considering whether that concoction looks like a vagina.

Yeah, I heard that as well and then went and found the story linked above.

I used to hit Trouble Coffee pretty regularly when I lived in SF. On easy training days, I'd ride in Golden Gate Park, then pop out by the water and head to Trouble. I miss those days.
