Nope, she's talking about boiling the water:

My first kettle plugged in at the wall, but that was because it was a bargain store kettle supplied by the uni as part of the furnishings in the flat. Every kettle I've bought since then has had a plugged in base, and usually automatic shut-off when you pick it up (though that seems harder to come by even though it's a brilliant safety feature).

Definitely sinister. The blank look combined with the whiteness is like Evil Killer Robot Bunny.

Why kettles boil slowly in the US

I do have an electric kettle--or my roommate does, technically--and I love it.

Woke up this morning to find that "one of the cats" had been using my computer. She opened the Bumblee Tuna page and the tuna wikipedia page and searched for "how to farm tuna" and a yahoo answers page about growing tuna in the garden. Tricksy kitty!

Oh, huh. I must have merged two posts into one in my head. Well, I fill a pot with water and wait for it to boil also to make pasta, but it definitely doesn't take more than 5 or so minutes depending on how much water.

And no matter how slow our electric kettle boils, it is faster than the (gas) stove, and frees up crucial stove top space (which I use to permanently store my dutch oven).

Maybe it is just me or maybe it just seems like 20 minutes but I also have an electric (ceramic top) stove or maybe I use too much water. I don't make pasta often though.

I remember not liking the Stray Cat Strut years ago when it first came out. I've been hearing it on my radio often lately and I LOVE it. Love the guitar in this song so much. It's got that swoony, moody, wavery note quality that I love--like every note is taking a nosedive before the next one comes and bumps it back up. LURVE IT.

I'm going to go buy a hoop today! I've been wanting to start hooping forever, it looks like so much fun and I need some kind of exercise I can do without having to leave the house, so I really hope I'm not like super awful at it or anything.

Pb, I just learned to hoop about a month ago! It was really hard, and I gave up a bunch of times (don't do that). If you need help, I like the Hooplovers videos on youtube.

I am making a birthday gift for my best friend. Her b-day is Wednesday. I am starting a pretty big project today. Two pillows, one will be embroidered. I think I can finish.

It will take my mind of the looming meeting my hubby has with his boss today.

getting lost in embroidery is a good idea!

i just bought some new zines and have books on hold from the library on a topic i am trying to write about. it is very hard for me to open about certain things in my past and write about them/think about them. i have been in a dark space recently due to these thoughts/past actions. i want to see how others deal with it/write about it.

I have about 100 pages of reading that need to be done by Thursday, but I have decided today is just a day for lying around and watching movies. I will probably hate myself for doing this tomorrow, but movies!

100 pages by Thursday doesn't sound too bad. What kind of reading is it? I guess for me that could be anywhere from 1-20 hours (if it's really boring, I'll stop every 10 minutes to play Candy Crush).

That's me and my final papers. And cover letters. I *did* write down some good ideas to talk about, so that counts, right?

Ecology textbook. It's interesting, but so. freaking. dense. Usually it takes me about an hour for 15-20ish pages, depending on how many figures there are. I had meant to get an hour done yesterday, but I was beat from working from 430am-7:00pm, so that didn't happen. I've decided ~1.5hrs/day isn't *that* much more than just over an hour a day, so movie watching is totally justifiable.Or at least that that is what I am telling myself.

Totally counts! I cleaned, made dinner, and did some planning for the week, so I've decided this was a successful day.

Things like that I don't really read. I get a large pad of paper and some markers and skim/concept map my way through it.

I developed some pretty good techniques when plowing through 1200 pages of journal articles for a lit review on Mt. Erebus.

I just don't have the discipline anymore to sit and struggle through dense text.

Hah. Yeah, this is me right now. I have to read Madame Bovary by Wednesday (just finished part 1), two essays by tomorrow afternoon, 40 pages of The Good Soldier by tomorrow afternoon, and 50 pages of a jazz textbook, plus somehow find time to meet with someone about my hardship withdrawal petition (I'm a quarter late for it to technically count, so I think going in would be best), write two responses on the swing era and Louis Armstrong, go a jazz show this week and do a write up of it, in addition to working 30 hours Wednesday-Saturday.

I am seriously considering quitting my job, breaking my lease, and moving back in with my dad to save money and have the time to only do school.

eta: especially because I'm applying for grad school in December and really do need to do as perfectly as possible for the next three quarters to even have a chance to get into the programs I'm looking at.
