Many of us who were visiting Austin for the first time this weekend definitely got into the 'local' drink, Topo Chico (or, as ameyfm calls it and so should we all, Topo Pipo).

I propose this thread as a safe space for Topo Pipo love as well as a place to document our various travails trying to get our Topo Pipo fixes in our respective cities. If you find Topo Pipo in your city, tell this thread!

It shouldn't be too challenging for me as it's imported from Mexico and I live in California. But I am very worried about how paprikapapaya is going to get her fix.

Oh also post videos of your gnarliest Topo Pipo burps here.

I...don't think I can live in a world (Canada) without Topo Pipo :( :( :( :( It's a perfect drink. Like little angels with razor blade skates on your tongue.
I brought one home with me and I want to drink it so badly but ugh, then what? I should save it.

Xocolatl, I had some that froze in my hotel room mini fridge and OMG so refreshing. Frozen bubbles.

We have it here in El Paso, TX, which shouldn't surprise anyone since we're riiighhhhtttt next to Juarez. I've never had it though. Next time I'm at the store, I'm picking up a bottle!

Little angels with razor blade skates! That sounds about right.

If you freeze a sealed bottle, it remains liquid and freezes from the top down when you open it.

ETA: If anyone read my unedited post, I was wrong about the time. Four hours is optimum, apparently.

YES! I saw that happen to mine and it was so weird! My husband was in the shower at the time and didn't believe me that it froze before my eyes.

When we were in Austin a couple of years ago, I almost started crying when I saw Topo Pipo (I can play along!) at a food truck (Biscuits and Groovy?). Love that stuff. Miss that stuff.

We found it once here in Seattle. It might have been at HT Oaktree Market on Aurora. I will investigate and report back. I can already report that I did a dance in the aisle when we did find it.

Intriguing. How is it different to regular sparkling water?

It's more popular and has a better nickname.

nailed it.

Seriously, though, I feel like it's more 'mild' than other sparkling waters. I'm not a big fan of sparkling water in general, but this was manageable. And refreshing. Honestly, I think half of its appeal is that it's so frosty cold in such unrelenting heat.

Also, I would classify it as having a pleasant, mineral-y flavor. It's pretty easy to get in Colorado, but not nearly so plentiful as it was in Texas.

Aah, I see. I like Badoit for similar reasons, the bubble are smaller somehow or it's less intrusively fizzy.

Mat.

I read the title too quickly and thought it said "The TOPO GIGIO thread!!!" I am now confused and slightly disappointed.

Awwwww Yeah!!! Topo Pipo! Topo Pipo!!
I already spent time on amazon looking at how I could buy it. Ha ha. I haven't done the deed yet - but I feel safer knowing that I can order it if I need to. I drank three large pipos on my last day. Like a PRO

I saw a bottle of Badoit intensely sparkling last night and remembered this! Drinking some ice cold now, and I think my usual San Pellegrino may have to do one.

Ha, I bought some of that too and it's too fizzy for me. I like the other one (in the green bottle).

I'm still on the hunt for Topo Pipo. I was sidetracked when I saw they started making New York Seltzer again, because HUZZAH! I totally have an ace up my sleeve, there's a little mini mart sort of near my house that sells every type of soda known to humanity. They HAVE to have it. If not, I will have to start methodically visiting all the Mexican groceries in the Bay Area!
