I am totally going to start referring to my friends as space creatures. amandabear wrote: choirqueer wrote: space is pretty forking hawt though. plus, think about it...all the sex that happens, EVER, happens in space. My new pickup line is totally going to be, "have you ever had sex in space? do you want to?" And then if they say yes, I will just take them back to my apartment and act totally indignant when they mention that my bedroom isn't in space. YES IT IS. *GASP* You are pretty much a genius. I would. On a more serious note, is it crazy that I am considering going back to university to become an astrophysicist? (edited because I pressed submit by accident in my excitement over the prospect of gettin' freaky IN SPACE!)

Because all wafflesex happens in space. Space has stared into the tiny syrup holes of our shame and it does not judge us. Somehow this thread involves time travel! A few posts up, boober sigged what you just now said! Before you said it. Hold me. Boober! Did you find the Doctor?!

I must go.
Boston-area PPK meet up for space geeking! Third Thursday of every month! I'd totally meet up for it. You have to get there really early though. And now the next time I hear Single Ladies I'll be thinking of Saturn. Which definitely makes that experience better.

Stuff I've been seeing lately about space—current (or sort of current) estimates of this or that—has me feeling amazed and baffled and happily minute. Apparently, and this is based only on a sampling of stars in the Milky Way, there could be 17 billion Earth-sized planets in our galaxy alone. Recent (?) estimates based on the Hubble Extreme Deep Field (more sensitive than the Hubble Ultra Deep Field) tell us there could be more than 175 billion galaxies in the universe. (Better technology will almost certainly require us to bump up those estimates.) If we assume (because, why not?) that the distribution of Earth-sized planets is similar in all those other galaxies, that means the universe is home to 2,975,000,000,000,000,000,000 Earth-sized planets. And that means if you tallied up one of the universe's Earth-sized planets every second, it would take you something like 94 trillion years to count them all. (And that's coming up on 7,000 times longer than the universe has existed [13.75 billion years].)
