Hi all. I have just found out that a friend of mine in Portland is in an abusive relationship and desperately trying to get out. Another friend of ours in Colorado has offered her a safe house, where she will be going once she gets the money together to get down there (she's raising money on gofundme). But in the meantime, apparently, the situation has taken a turn for the worse and she is currently in fear for her safety. She needs to get out, but has a cat and a guinea pig and leaving them behind is NOT an option.

Does anyone here know of a shelter that would take her with her pets? Or any other resources she could call on? Any info would be great!

Would she be willing to have someone take care of the animals for a bit while she gets on her feet? I can post around the internet and such if that's something that would help. Also...how much room does a guinea pig take up?

I would suggest she calls a domestic violence crisis line. They might have ideas. Sometimes the domestic violence agency in my area as well as the homeless housing agency where I work will pay for a motel stays. I'm not sure if a motel would let her bring her cat and guinea pig though. Also, it is possible that a domestic violence agency has funds to help relocate her to safety in Colorado.

I also found this: http://www.dvrc-or.org/monikas-house/ it looks like they take pets.

These links pop up through the Humane Society, and Katie Jayne's link to Monika's House appears in several places online. Safety and good luck to your friend.

Thank you guys! I've passed the info along. Apparently other folks have also mentioned Monika's place. I hope she gets out of there soon.

Also she can call 211, they are a real great all-encompassing social services hotline. They know alllllll the options.

This thread is making me a little nervous. The abusers I've known would be creepy enough to do internet searches about this topic, meaning that they would very likely know where their victims would be going. :( Sorry to be Debbie Downer or whatever, but I felt like this needed to be said.

Anyway - I hope your friend is able to get out ASAP. My suggestion would be to ask an animal shelter if someone could foster her pets while she is hiding and taking care of business.

I absolutely understand your concerns, Jigglypuff, but considering all of her FB friends, many of whom are friends with him, are spreading around her gofundme link with the same information and her FB alias (which he knows) attached to it, if he doesn't already know her plans, this thread is not going to be where he finds out about them.

In any case, it sounds like she might have found another solution! Thank you all for your help and concern.
