Basically, I hate spring in my neighborhood because of these crasshole trees. Spring should be great, but I have to hold my breath when I walk around. ew!

These are all over the campus of the high school my husband went to. He still talks about the horrible fish trees!

I knew they smelled gross, but this adds a whole other dimension

Yeah, I was just reading more about them and one of the articles was "Bradford Pear Trees Smell Like cream tang." Ha and ew.

We had these outside my high school. There was a rather crass nickname for them.

we used to call them nut trees.

Yup. There are several of them on the Harvard campus, and my friend and I always referred to them as "The Horrible C.um Trees of Harvard Yard."

YES. I have long wanted to know what these trees are called... There were a ton at my undergrad school and we called them fish trees but I always secretly called them spooge trees. The worst!

Nasty. You know what else is nasty? The fruit from ginkgo trees, which hase butyric acid in it, so they smell like dog crepe. Fortunately, only female ginkgos bear fruit.

I think they smell like rotten crotch period blood. Or liquid latex you use to make molds. SO GROSS.

Anybody else ever smelled a corpse flower? How does it compare?

I had one in my yard for the past 5 years (til it recently fell down in a storm) and I never noticed it smelled! Now I will have to go smell one of the neighbor's trees!

i don't think i ever smelled semen from them. i may have to take a walk in the neighborhood soon. (but yeah, ginkgo seeds smell like vomit. so gross! this is the tree that philadelphia plants around it's playgrounds. i have no idea why, and whether they intentionally planted female trees or what.)

So funny. We have a lot of those trees around here (I didn't even have to click the link to know what we were talking about). A few years ago, I was with my mom and brothers and said, 'Those trees! They're so gorgeous, but they smell like rotten vag!' And they were shocked and one of my brothers said, 'Um. How do you know?' Ha...I mean I've gone camping without showering before, yo.

I have never smelled semen, so I am now glad I have an idea of what semen smells like.

This thread is blowing my mind because I've either never encountered pungent cream tang or my sense of smell is faulty. But I gotta smell these trees, man.

Huh, I mean...I haven't smelled THAT MUCH, but any that I have has smelled pretty much the same. Kinda bleachy and unpleasant? I dunno. I really don't like it. Maybe it's a genetic thing like cilantro hate. Obviously not everyone thinks it smells bad, but enough do to make it onto wikipedia!

I always though semen smells like what flour & water together smells like. Not unpleasant but not delicious or anything. Kind of slightly more on the side of a good smell than a bad smell, but mostly just neutral.
