I'm gonna have one. I know! I'm that person planning a wedding, and it feels weird. We're getting married in March at the cidery/farm I work at. The ceremony will be super speedy and in the orchard, and our guests are limited to 30. One of my work's catering partners is great about vegan stuff, and will even make recipes I give them if they don't come up with something I love. I'm kind of snotty about food so I think I might do that...but honestly, I'm NOT snotty about food because I'd be happy with a sammich--I just want it to be a delicious sammich. Banh Mi is pretty much my favourite thing ever so I'd be pleased with a lemongrass tofu fancy-ish banh mi with some other finger food. I am all about snacky food spreads so I'd like to have some stuff available for everyone at all times.

Anyway, I'm looking for unique/cheap ideas for everything from food to umm...other stuff? I'm not super into cake or cupcakes, so I was thinking that mini pies or fancy truffles would be cute for dessert.

I know some of you have had rocking vegan weddings so I'm basically just looking for any words of wisdom or fun ideas. Help me?

Congratulations!!!!! What a wonderful announcement! You always seem like the sweetest couple. And a small, intimate affair sounds wonderful and like a great way to have a magical day that you get to enjoy as well as your guests.

Big congrats. Your wedding sounds great. I've been engaged for a year and a half now but have been unable to commit to a time/place/anything because I find the idea of it all so stressful. I think your plans are fantastic and I can't wait to see the food porn for your day. : )

Yay! Congrats! I kind of sort of have sometimes worked in the wedding business, and been nauseated by some of the people I've worked for. So it felt super weird to be the one planning my own wedding when that happened. We also kept it small and on a reasonable budget.
My best advice would be to make sure someone is taking pictures and that someone videos the ceremony and even parts of the reception. It doesn't have to be professional at all. I'm sure someone in those 30 guests can handle it. You will treasure those pictures and videos for the rest of your life. If pie and truffles are what you like, go for them. My cousin had pie for her wedding because that is the dessert she likes best. You could arrange them on a tiered serving thingy to sort of resemble a weeding cake if you fancy. Or not.
People will ask you what your wedding colors are. If you are like me, you won't have even thought of such a thing. So make up really ugly color combinations like brown and grey or fuchsia and orange and laugh your head off when they get upset! (Yikes, I hope you weren't planning a brown, grey, fuchsia and orange wedding! Um, I'm sure it will be lovely!)

Thanks guys! I will totally take you up on that ijdi. I would love to see pics even though I creepishly already have due to you know what.

I'm really excited even though I feel weird being a bride. Some avid PPKers might remember that we'd planned this several years ago, but then Jay's parents both passed away and we decided to let it wait and happen when we were ready. Anyway, it is fun getting married to my best friend with whom I've been through so much.

We're planning our wedding right now for February, so let me know if you want someone to talk with about planning stuff! We're looking at about 100 people, but trying to keep things low budget.

We're having cupcakes and mini pies for dessert!

There's a wedding thread around these parts somewhere...

We got married by a county clerk and had a small reception at my parents' house with Indian from a local veg place. We rented their steam tables and wine glasses, and it was just great!

Yay Vijita and Nebraskalaska - my brides in arms!!

I'm so glad you started this thread! I'm also getting married (on September 1st)!! It's a ppk wedding party! But I totally know what you mean about feeling weird about planning a wedding and all that. I've actually thought of starting a thread, but I was too embarrassed. Ha ha

We're getting married in my cousins backyard. We are trying so hard to keep it small, but I think we will be inviting about 60 grown ups (and about 20 kids!!). I look forward to wedding chat with my fellow ppk friends.

Yay! Congrats!

We're getting married next month and we're expecting 50 people. We're going to be in the woods at a county park and have access to a giant grill so we're making veggie kabobs. We're doing a wrap station with falafel, the kabob veggies, flatbread, hummus, and lots of fresh veggies. Then we've got tabbouleh, bean salad, olives, and fruit on the side. We're also making pasta puttanesca for the veggie haters in our family. We're having baklava instead of cake or cupcakes. I just did a run through this week of all the food and it is OMG soooo delicious.

Other cost-saving or fun things we're doing...
Instead of flowers we're picking some lavender and rosemary from a nearby u-pick farm and some herbs from my own garden and that will make up the bouquets, boutonnieres, and table decorations.

For a guest book I've bought some pretty fabric, cut it into charm squares, and we're going to get everyone to write on one. Then I'll sew it into a quilt!

A few of our friends are into amateur photography so they're taking all our pics. Another friend plays guitar so he's doing the music during the ceremony. We made up a playlist on our iPod and rented a microphone, so we've got the reception music covered!

We are pretty low budget (< $3000, we splurged on a few things like renting tableware and an independent artist for invites) so I'm definitely available to share ideas! I'll also have some stuff to re-sell for cheap after our wedding (burlap table runners, fairy lights) if anyone's interested.

Sorry if I over shared! It's been a lot of fun planning but I wish I'd had someone to share ideas with!

I was too embarrassed as well! Ha. Hence the apologetic title of this thread.

Anyway, that sounds great, I'm so happy for you and Musty! It's easier for me to keep it small because we have small families and most of them are miles and miles away.

couroupita, that sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing all of that. The food sounds incredible.

So far all I have is the location, date, and knowledge that Jay will be drawing the invitations. I don't like cut flowers so edible arrangements is a great idea.

Panders, I will work balls into it somehow.

When we start talking about it, all we do is lament the fact that Puddy can't come. Maybe I'll sneak her in somehow.

Why are all the wedding dresses on etsy white?! I don't want white. Any suggestions for other sites to buy a dress from an indie artist?

Congrats!!

Weddings are awesome! Have fun, keep it light, don't get caught up in the drama, take a million pics and video, dance to great music, eat a shiitake load of yummy vegan cake and remember to slow down and take it all in.

I want pics of the dress once it's picked out! Let me know if you need any info on the dress, bridesmaid's dresses, or anything like that.

Woo, congratulations to everyone! We're not engaged yet but we've discussed this stuff a lot recently and would also be looking at a 30 people max kind of event. So I'm going to lurk the shiitake out of your planning!

Congratulations vijita and everyone else getting married! offbeatbride.com often has tips on how people saved money at their weddings, and they post lots of unique stuff like invitations and shoes (!) and all sorts of things. I've never planned a wedding, but maybe it would help you.

I just helped plan my bff's wedding that was all outside and low budget. It was a lot of work because we pretty much made everything. Centerpieces, the alter, and some other things that now I can't even remember even though it was just two months ago! It was a non stop flurry of activity for months.

We didn't have flowers either but we made the centerpieces out of thrifted containers and succulents. We ended up catering the food (tacos of course from a local restaurant) and were really glad we did cause cooking would have been so hard on the day. We had a small cake cause the bride's mom insisted and then one of my other friends made cream puffs for dessert and everyone really liked that, no one ate any cake. I think people are really into non traditional desserts and pies would be awesome. I sawthis buffet pic and loved it.

My top advice is to get one of your friends or family members to be in charge of questions on the day of. For us there were just a million questions and problems right when you we were trying to get ready and it got really intense so I was really glad we had put a bunch of different people in charge of different things and we designated one of our friends the site manager.

And think beforehand about the pictures that you want and have someone take them! We just relied on the pro photographer to take pics of everything but he didn't take nearly as many of the things we spent a lot of time on or the most important people which is so frustrating.

And get used to being "the bride" everyone is going to fawn all over you as soon as they find out. Especially at those dress stores.

so true. I got so embarassed when my yoga class found out, because suddenly everyone was so excited and squeeing and it was very sweet, but also totally overwhelming.

When I went dress shopping, the ladies at the store were saying "Is this a special occasion?......." all woo-woo like, so I just kept saying "No."

haha.

Vijita, I don't really want white either. In fact, I just wanted a sporty little number. I might actually wear a green dress that I already like that I feel comfortable in. Otherwise I found a pretty simple little bridesmaid dress that comes in light blue and is very understated. So that will be a back up option.

Green twins! I'm obsessed with having green. And I remember ijdi's dress was green and it was beautiful.
