vijita wrote: Okay, so please help. Booze is done (working on the wine), Caterer is planned, venue chosen, staffing soon to be confirmed, dress obtained, invitations procured but not yet sent out (oops, but we did do save-the-dates), Jay is working on his clothes, I am working on finding accommodations for the 30 people coming from out of town (for a total guest list of 34). What else do I need? Everyone says flowers and a photographer. I don't like cut flowers, but I figure cute little succulent plants could stand in for that, and maybe something with lavender. I don't really like photos but I think my mum will kill me if we don't have some photos. We do need to find a commissioner, but I don't care that much about that part. We have our rings. OMG they are gorgeous. And probably the most expensive thing other than my degrees that I will ever own. Oops.
What are my next steps? Everyone keeps asking me how the planning is going as if I should be doing something?
ETA and my dress is a bit big as I have lost some weight, but it's flow-y so I don't really care. Should I get it taken in? I like to think that I'll gain the (mainly bust) weight back by the end of March, but my body has been weird lately. Succulent plants would be nice. We did a couple of big potted mums (but got married in the fall) around the party place because it was pretty bare and then did 3 pillar candles of different heights on top of a shiny metal charger ($1 from craft store) for centerpieces. they were great because they took up minimal space and dressed up the tables, but didn't get in the way of people talking to each other/seeing each other. The pillar candles were used five years later to keep my mother's neighbors' houses lit during the recent hurricane and no power for two weeks. Useful! Didn't use flowers for holding and highly recommend going that route - they always seem so cumbersome, even if pretty. Definitely hire a photographer. I would have your dress taken in if you don't think it's just as flattering now as it was when it fit. I was totally irritated that my wedding dress was a bit too big on the actual day and it didn't look as good in pictures. What is a commissioner? Is that like a justice of the peace? I would find one ASAP - you don't want to have a hard time finding one who's free on your date!

NA, hope you're coming back to show us photos soon!
I'm going to look at a couple wedding venues this weekend, finally, after rescheduling a couple times due to snow storms. One is an art museum and the other is a pick-your-own-fruit farm with a big barn. After these tours we're going to pick a venue for real so I'm pretty excited!

So what's really going to happen if I pick venue #2 is you're going to give me all the tips for making my wedding awesome. Right?

Okay, the farm is out, so nevermind. It's a toss up between two awesome museums, though, which means maybe I don't have to be too clever with the decorating.

Congratulations!
My advice: splurge on yourself and your fiancee, your favourite photographer and a delicious and comfortable reception; cheap on the rest. My husband gave me free-rein for a big formal reception so that's what we planned (and my wedding day looked like a magazine-cover) but when I think of what we spent on a day that goes by so fast, I would have rather have had new floors in my condo and a newly renovated kitchen that year.

Thanks for all the congratulations! The wedding, honeymoon, and everything was completely amazing. I honestly didn't think it would be as great as it was. I keep trying to post pics but they're huge so I need to find time to resize them. Soon!

I got married in a natural history museum and that, to me, was one of the biggest benefits of the venue. There is already so much stuff to plan, so it was super nice to be like "We're getting married beneath dinosaurs, what else do we need?" and just add a few little touches to make it look wedding-y and call it a day. I've seen photos of weddings in all sorts of different types of museums and they always look lovely. P.S. Hi everyone, I am new and just jumping in awkwardly! And also, congratulations to all of you!

Wow, I am literally blushing right now. Y'all are so sweet!
We really did have an amazing time, and most importantly so many of our guests told us that they had a great time which made us super duper happy.
