What's everyone doing for NYE? I usually either stay in and bake / eat cake or go for dinner at my favourite fancy pants restaurant but I'm in Bangkok so I think I might brave the crazy crowds and head out to watch a huge firework display!

I am officially old and lame? I plan to be asleep at midnight!

I might use the time off work tonight or tomorrow to cook something though. I rarely find time to cook.

We're planning on seeing Star Wars tonight. If that doesn't work out then home and Netflix.

Hi Jojo,

Hope the travelling is going well. Lee and I are going to do nothing much. Sometimes we can be arsed and sometimes not, this year not.

Mat.

We're visiting my parents for a long weekend. Which will actually be really nice, since I haven't seen them since before I left for Europe at the start of October. We're going to have pho here in Denver for a late lunch, then go down to their place and probably have something reasonably tasty for dinner and sparking wine, I would imagine. And go to bed pretty early.

Meh. I'm working today and have a lot of walking around the building and aquarium cleaning to do, which now at 37 weeks pregnant really wears me out after several hours. So I may go to a friend's party...or I may stay home and do nothing. We'll see.

I'm going on a mini pub crawl in the evening (okay, 2 different pubs) to say hello to a couple of friends, but I'll be back home with earplugs in come midnight!

I've been asleep at midnight on NY before Tigon, I like sleeping! What d'you think you're gonna cook?

I hope you get to enjoy Star Wars blondiefk!

Pi_Face enjoy doing nothing! Are you in Madrid now?

Thanks Mat! Travelling is going well, there are ups and downs just like being at home but overall it's fun and I love it. I'm no fan of enforced fun so like you sometimes I fancy doing something for NYE and sometimes I don't. Right now I'm drinking weird Japanese liquor and watching You Tube vid's because midnight is over an hour away!

Sounds fun Olives, I love Pho!!

electric_claire that sounds tiring, I hope you have a nice evening whatever you end up doing.

Have lots of fun seeing friends dropscone! I might check out a rock pub later depending on the craziness of the crowds / my energy levels.

Going out for dinner is one of my go-to NYE plans but all of the vegan restaurants that I like here are closed because NYE is a holiday!!

I think we will be having a quiet evening in.
We didn't plan anything and I have been the only person working at my paid job this week, so I am beat.
I may write all night.

still deciding whether to go with my partner to his friend's party or stay home and not have to engage in terrifying social contact.

I'm in Las Vegas visiting family but can't deal with going out and the chaos of all that. I plan to do a special yoga class that starts at 11 PM and goes past midnight so we do yoga into the new year. I did it once before and it was a really lovely way to finish the old year and start the new centered and mindful.

Quick drinks at the pub after work then home for the College football bowl games, some beers on the couch watching said games. Asleep by midnight. Go me!

Sounds like I'm the odd one out - I'm definitely off to a party! Many of my favourite people will be there so it's guaranteed to be a good night.

Happy New Year to all of you who are already in 2016!!!

I'm going up somewhere near Sacramento to meet some of my bf's friends. We might go up into the Sierra-Nevada foothills to see some snow in the evening, which will be fun, because I don't know that my dogs have ever seen snow.

Board games and beer with my BF, bed by 10:30. I'm just not a night person! But tomorrow we will go hiking and to a brewery and that will be great.

I am doing absolutely nothing. Last year, I was bitten by a dog and sprained my ankle on NYE, so doing nothing sounds great to me this year.

Also, one of my friend's relatives just posted this on fb, and it is the greatest New Year's picture I've ever seen:

I see you're 7 hours ahead of the UK, Jojo, so happy new year! Hope you had a great time whatever you decided to do!

I posted about this in the NYE menu thread, but it applies to this one as well! I've never really liked NYE because of its queasy mix of astronomically high social expectation/pressure and maudlin nostalgia/sentimentalism, so as an adult we usually just have a few people over for drinks, food, and games and/or music. This year my partner is away visiting his family in Canada, but all three of my boys are at home, so I'm hanging out with them tonight, which is really, really nice. The ultra low-key plan is to have some fancy drinks (nice rye I got as a gift; champagne at midnight), watch movies, and eat snacks. I'm still experiencing cooking fatigue from Christmas, so in addition to regular stuff like chips, onion dip, guacamole, salsa, crudités, crackers, etc., I laid in a ton of grape leaves, olives, hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, and pita from our excellent local middle eastern market. And now all my errands are done, the Christmas trees (I lost my mind and put up two this year) still look good, and it feels good not to have to leave the house again until 2016. Happy New Year, PPK!

We are likely staying in and going to bed early. We entertained last night so we were up late (for us, anyway!) and biker boy has to be up early tomorrow to hit the slopes. Nachos will be featured, though, so it's not like we aren't giving 2015 a proper send off.

I had great intentions about cycling around visiting friends this evening, but fell asleep after getting in from work and only just woke up about 11pm so that's not going to happen! It's just me and the cats :)

Well we had a lovely curry, indulged in sambuca when we got home, and now I'm so tired I can't wait fifteen minutes till midnight. And it feels good to know that that is okay. Happy New Year to one and all.
