The same local animal rescue that was advertising some fundraising event at an Applebee's with a picture of a giant cheeseburger is now having a chili cook-off "for the animals."

I just adulted up and closed Facebook rather than responding to the invite with something like, "Assuming that since this is an event to save animals, it's only veggie chili, correct? Just want to make sure before I buy a ticket!"

I think that's an appropriate comment Hollie. Unless you already know it's not veggie chili.

Uggh. I had to stop supporting a cat rescue that regularly has steak night fundraisers. Come eat a cow! Save a cat!

Not really a peeve, but it never ceases to catch me a little off guard when I find out that someone is vegan also has some pretty inconsistent views on other things. Like, the co-founder of a huge vegan fitness group was recently outed as white supremacist, the evidence being a video he made with his girlfriend where they talked about non-whites being inferior and not as smart and so on, while at the same time making videos about how we should treat animals equally. And then someone who I follow on youtube made a vlog titled 'we love our second amendment' and it started with her and her husband talking about their rifles and how guns don't kill people (so on) and I was like, "...i'm...i'm just gonna unsubscribe now."

Oh damn, I went to look for the vegan fitness person, that totally wouldn't have been my guess. Really... what the hell

Yeah, i'm not going to drop the name in there because of kfischer possibilities, but if you search 'vegan white supremacist' on youtube it'll probably come up. To the credit of the group, he was removed completely.

Not a peeve, just funny - I took my team at work out for lunch at this vegetarian diner place (Veggie Galaxy), and this other guy asked where we were going and said, "Is everything there made out of vegetables?" I said well, they have omelets and pancakes and stuff, and he said incredulously "So, do the omelets have...vegetables in them?" Um, dude, omelets with vegetables in them are a thing!

That reminds me of when I try to tell omnis I make vegan ice cream.

They: But what do you use instead of cream?
Me: Well, either soy milk, or cashew milk, or...
They: Oh, you make it with tofu!

Soy milk and tofu are just NOT the same thing.

Saying soy milk is tofu is like saying milk and cream are cheese.

"Oh, you make your ice cream with cheese!"

Omnis are silly.

All vegan stuff is tofu. I had ground-tofu tofus for dinner with a nice tofu sauce , and chocolate tofu for dessert.

I love starting the day with a nice, hot cup of tofu.

One woman at a work function yesterday rightly did not want to try my pumpkin muffins because they were really just lumps of tofu.

I had a coworker bring in cookies yesterday and proudly tell me that they're vegetarian.

I couldn't help myself: "so the cookies don't have meat in them?" My other coworker laughed.

Once I ordered a dish at a restaurant which was basically dried tofu and fried tofu in a sauce, and the waiter tried to convince me to order something different because I wouldn't like tofu and tofu. They were wrong, it was delicious. And I had salt and pepper tofu on the side.

You could have the baked beans, tofurky sausage and tofu! That doesn't have much tofu in it.

My dad ate all my Swedish Glace ice creams, he said he didn't realise I "ate that stuff", but I'm not convinced that he didn't know they were my soya ice creams, this has happened before... my pet peeve is that Swedish Glace is so good that other people keep eating it (eyeroll). I don't mind sharing but I want my ice cream dammit!

My grandmother has bought Swedish glace as long as I can remember, she didn't even know it was vegan. I think the old black packaging made it look posher.

Yup, it sure is. We had samples sent to our work. No one wanted to try them.
