I don't joke with it. My deal with myself is that I live this lifestyle, so one of the benefits I give myself is not having to look at animal cruelty stuff. It either really depresses me, or makes me feel a rage that can last for days, and neither state is productive or healthy.

I think the offer to bring vegan whipped cream to waffle day is awesome! You make awesome vegan waffles, pour on strawberry sauce (just..sliced strawberries and some sugar, left to sit out for 15 minutes or so while you make the waffles), and pipe on some soyatoo. Then you eat it and be glad you're alive. Man, I want that. Hurry up, Maersk ship carrying my waffle iron!!

I think the point was that there won't be any vegan waffles there or an opportunity to make them.

So I managed to get a spot in this field ecology class and I was super excited about it. Except when I was reading the syllabus, it has a two night weekend field trip, and we're all expected to contribute $20 to buy food and then take turns preparing meals. I really hope I will be able to be exempt from that and just bring all my own food, because I am so not preparing or spending money on food I can't even eat.

Ugh, I wish meal times weren't something I have to stress over.

I would show up with my own batter, because I'm That Vegan, at least where there are waffles concerned.

Wow, it sounds like they don't mind treating people or chicks cruelly if they (the people or the chicks) get in the way of their desires.

seeing as my boyfriend does not know how to use a waffle iron and everyone has to to share a waffle iron (so due to cross contamination gf guy is out) it is sucks. also a few people in the office are on a low carb diet - so i think they should have thought this out better.

i might make some coconut yogurt parfaits for those that may be left out. it depends on my boyfriend wanting to take them in or not. he sometimes does not want to make a big deal and rather sit at his desk. also the time is between when they get there and lunch. my boyfriend rather have his packed lunch than fill up on waffles provided or just a waffle-dream...

Anyone else have friends do stuff like this: post an article on my FB page about some paleo nitwits making protein bars with ground up crickets!?!

"Look at the PROTEIN content of these! Would you eat them?"

Um. No thanks, buddy. (yuk!) I'm just fine with lentils, 'kay?

Every time I hear someone endorse some food because "it's a good source of protein," I want to ask where they live. Like, is it the wilderness and five hundred years ago? Or are you, like, a present-day person in good health, with easy access to food?

You should eat plenty of grapefruit, you guys, because it's a good source of water! And without water you will die!

Twice in the last couple weeks I've been to a coffee shop that can't make me a soy latte because they're out of soy milk. These places have both been around the corner, like 200 feet away, from a grocery store that sells soy milk. If only they could work out some sort of solution!

The one here on base - called, and I'm not making this up, "Chock Full o' Nuts," which obviously I would prefer my coffee not to be*, says they might have some Monday, or maybe Thursday. Seriously?

* apparently this is some sort of New York area thing, and started out as a nut place before turning into a lunch counter during the depression era to stay in business, but that doesn't make it a less terrible name. All I can picture is some dude dipping his hairy sack in my non-soy-latte-coffee.

Now I have the Chock Full o' Nuts theme in my head. There was one across from the building I grew up in when I was really little.

I'm from the east coast and know chock full'o nuts as a coffee brand, but had no idea it was also like, a shop.

It's.... Not the most appealing name.

Also, at one point in Oregon this winter, a grocery store Starbucks kiosk told me they couldn't make me a soy latte because they were out of soy milk. Which the grocery store definitely sold.

i have to remind myself: not everyone who is vegan is going to be super nice! :( the librarian today had on a vegan necklace and after being rude to me (i was inquiring if my photo of mar can be hold an extra day since i am out of town on the 'pet' wall she made me feel stupid) i thought i would be nice and say 'cool necklace - i am vegan too'...it did not really melt her heart or anything...

i am pretty positive that she was this militant veg person in a group i went to, she would harass people at earth day to go vegan but could not fathom tea without milk...

also trying to support local coffee places over starbucks. i went into a shop today to get an iced coffee with almond milk - it was horrible. it tasted like a coffee drink someone drank, left the ice out and then was given to me...i went to ampm and got better coffee! at least at ampm i do not have to run into the guy i had to de-facebooked who wrote spoken word poetry about his penis.

am on a prescription med right now... am bummed because i read the doctor's monograph on the manufacturer's website which detailed all the testing that had been done on it. about 10 different studies, each on a different species of animal... to prove it was as effective as the same exact drug from another manufacturer. is that really necessary? not exactly breaking new ground there...

And it's (apparently) heavenly. I've always scratched my head about the name, too. What kind of nuts? Whose nuts? Why are they in coffee? So many unanswered questions.

My housemate is frying beef mince in my wok. I don't care usually, and we both use each other's stuff all the time, but I arbitrarily care today. I don't want to be a kumquat, and other people eating meat doesn't usually bother me, but I think I want to live with a vegetarian next time.

Ugh, I SO can't cope with frying pans & grill pans which people have cooked meat in. Especially grill pans when the fat gets left all over it & gets stuck to the wire.

Yeah, that would be a deal breaker for me.

i am making extra protein, no sugar gluten free granola for the boyfriend to take tomorrow. i top our waffles/french toast/pancakes with granola so...i am also sending the boyfriend a cup of soy yogurt for him to enjoy. i paid $8 for the certified gf oats, bought extra nuts to make it high protein (less focus on carbs for the carb conscious on his team) and using no sugar...i spent a good chunk of food budget on trying to include his coworkers in that otherwise would be left out...
