At the cake supply store this morning picking up some candy molds, the lady helping me (with whom I'm pretty friendly since I've been shopping there for like 15 years), asked me about the creme eggs I said I was going to make last time I was in. I was telling her that I have loads of people wanting them since there are a lot of people who don't or can't eat eggs and/or dairy, and everything I make is vegan since I'm vegan. She started telling me about her brother and sister-in-law who are vegan and live in Portland. Cool. Except every time her brother comes to visit he makes her take him to KFC for fried chicken and makes her promise not to tell his wife. And of course, now that his wife is pregnant, she needs extra protein so she's added chicken breasts to her vegan diet...

I just wanted to scream "THEY'RE NOT REALLY VEGAN" but I contained myself somehow.

I would have just been the rude crasshole saying "oh, so they used to be vegan." but I would say it with a big friendly smile.

Oh man, I wish I had thought to say that. Instead I just mumbled something about me having a healthy pregnancy while staying vegan and everyone making their own choices, then ran out of there as fast as I could.

My pet peeve of the day - the cupcake bakery that offers vegan choices (which is cool, yes!) but the "regular" cupcakes are covered in fancy frosting and sprinkles and chocolate chips and stuff and the vegan cupcakes almost look like plain muffins...plus the vegan cupcakes are 50cents more...

The vegan tax!

It's insidious.

Trudat. We ate on the base subway the other day (no judging, it's either that or Taco Bell until I figure out how to escape from this base) and my footlong veggie delite came to like $9 because of avocado. Way more than they charge for a toasted triple meatgasm with cheese or whatever the most expensive avocadoless meateater sandwich is.

My mom: I have a can of crab; I'm going to make crabcakes.
Me: Oh.
My mom: Do you eat crab?
Me: Nope.
My mom: Why not?

I have been vegan for like 5 years. I think we've gone through this for EVERY POSSIBLE ANIMAL.

^ my grandmother and I got into this about fish the other day.

Grandma: oh, can you eat fish?
Me: no grandma, fish is meat.
Grandma: no it isn't!
Me:...... Yeah, it's a dead animal.
Grandma: fish aren't animals!
Me: what are you talking about? You're an animal, I'm an animal, fish are animals too. They may not be mammals, but they are animals!
Grandma: huh. Yeah, I guess you're right.

I'm vegan. You're not. That's fine (not really, but let's not get into that). You don't have to start talking about how you "don't really eat much meat" and "don't always need meat for dinner" - especially not when you follow up with how you "like chicken and fish better." If this had only happened once it would have been funny, but it's probably happened with ten different people...

Another observation: A lot of (female) people seem to blame their (male) life partners for eating meat every day. "He just has to have meat, if I cook a vegetarian meal he asks where the food is!" "My husband is such a manly man if he didn't eat meat ten times a day his muscles would shrivel up and his penis would fall off." etc etc

i have never gotten/probably never will get why people who are not vegan insist that they know what is vegan and what is not.

Similarly, the people who insist that we're not properly vegan because we eat plants and "plants totally feel pain!!".

Also, not vegan because I step on insects when I walk through grass and don't just hover or something instead.

They are deeply invested in not having to change (because making big changes sucks). If vegans are lying, hypocritical dummies, they don't need to be emulated. The anti-vegans have a lot riding on this.

I hate that any time someone brings up vegan makeup on another site stupid Airbonne trolls come in trying to sell stuff. I am even getting that on my Instagram now with pictures I tag as #crueltyfreemakeup and the like.

That's right, pass me the butter (the real stuff, not that plastic, chemical-filled BS called margarine), and the bacon (the real stuff not that stuff that used to be turkey, but has been chemically cured/altered to look and (only kind of) taste like real bacon). Oh, and, whole you're at it, give me that full fat cheese while you're at it! Nutrition is simple, people. Just eat real, whole foods; everything else is just chemicals and preservatives - yummy, cancer!

Sigh. Vegetables? Are vegetables or beans real?
