Instagram gripe: food shaming avocados and feeling like a glutton for eating one because of the fat...I thought the post I saw the other day about a woman eating a whole banana instead of 1/2 and felt bad was awful but it was posted on a workout site (I have come to expect crepe like this from the 'trainer')...this was just about someones dinner.

Apparently the salad I had for lunch wasn't vegan, according to a pair of meat eaters, because bugs are killed when salad is washed. Oh...kay then.

And I'm not even a little bit sorry.

Ewwww! I can't think of many things more disgusting than deep fried fat blobs!! I also wasn't aware that was a common, er, dude food.

So I've been reading this thread from the beginning and just leaving the window open at work to look at when I [slack off] have a few spare minutes. I'm only on page 153 there are so many more to go, yet it does not disappoint.

That is all.

Oh, and I just replied to someone's post on a health/workout site where they'd asked for help to "start liking" vegetables. I gave a very basic method for making totally awesome roasted brussels sprouts.

FOUR PEOPLE felt the need to immediately respond about how that 'recipe' sucked unless you add bacon. shiitake bags.

Mmm, roasted brussels sprouts.. Now I want some.

My peeve is the pod-based coffee things that have latte and cappuccino pods, but it's always dairy milk. I wish someone made a soy ( / almond / coconut / oat / hemp / whatever the trendy thing to milk next is) version for once.

Mostly I ignore this, because how hard is adding soymilk, right? But I am dusting off my 220V senseo to use over here and looked up what kind of pods they have these days and youse guys, this:

An article on a website called positively positive, that absolutely wasn't. Written by some vegan health guru who slammed all meat analogues and said that real vegans don't eat meat, not even fake meat, so if you can't imagine not eating meat then don't try.

Long link here if you really care:

Oof. That article was ridiculous. It kind of sounds like she's just not a very good cook? I mean, I've made lots of biscuits with non-dairy milk and none of them were "rock like pucks that crumble into sand." Also, explain to me the part where sesame oil is high in protein? Huh?

Oh wow! That article made me al kinds of angry..... she clearly is very misinformed on what it means to be vegan. Also I agree she simply must be a dreadful cook. If on occasion I want to feed myself or my kids a quick lunch of veggie dogs or "nuggets" I am not a "real vegan"? Really now? I regularly feed omnis who love my cooking/baking. People love my biscuits made with Earth Balance and almond milk and I have no problem making baked goods disappear no matter if I am serving them to vegans or omnis. She is just clueless.

It's been over 4 years now, and I don't think I'll ever get used to being told to just bring my own food to my husband's family gatherings. Why bother inviting us?

My mom's family at least makes half the dishes vegan for us, which is amazing. My dad's family tries, and isn't very good at it, so I willingly bring our own food, but at least they try.

Meh. She sounds like she's been vegan for about 5 days, and writes like she's about 12 years old ("vegan's" as a plural? Go finish your homework, sweetie). Officially Beneath One's Notice.

My friend, who is lovely and supportive of my veganism, tagged me in a FB post about the new vegan bacon grease. I was immediately flooded with notifications from her non-vegan friends commenting about bacon, health issues related to coconut oil and soy, and this gem:
"Haha! Most vegans would probably eat human with no moral qualms about it." I asked my friend to untag me (and she did).

The thing I find funny about it is that this same person once said that since humans are also animals, vegans shouldn't breastfeed their children. Pick an argument and stick with it, lady!
