That is sadly true.

I spent a week in Millington once. That was enough.

Where did you find it?! I've been looking for vegan Kit Kats in Halifax for months!

At Lawtons on Porland St. in Dartmouth, so the other Lawtons probably have it.

Thanks! I'll have to check it out :)

This why I bake my own birthday cakes... I can't let my mom spend way too much money on dry, tasteless Whole Foods cake.

Supermarket cakes are the worst! Does anyone remember being a kid and just licking eating the frosting off the top of cakes at birthday parties? Cause I totally did that.

I was the kid scrapping off the frosting off the cakes so I didn't have to eat it.

We never had supermarket cakes, that I remember, growing up. My mom made cakes for basically everyone in the family and many friends.

I've also never had a WF cake.

I've never had WF cake, but the WF here sells cake slices and cupcakes made by a local vegan/g-f baking company, which are pretty great. Also, EarthFare makes a vegan carrot cake which is the bomb dot com.

So. . . yeah. I guess this isn't a pet peeve post.

This - I've never understood what people see in buttercream. Now, frosting out of a can I used to looooooove (I think some of it's accidentally vegan, at least by peta standards, but I can't usually be bothered to figure out which)... but not that stuff on cakes. And WF vegan cakes are about 75% buttercream, 25% dry cake. Got one for my daughter's first birthday right after moving here because I didn't have time to order or equipment to make a better one yet. It wasn't terrible, wasn't something worth seeking out.

I don't know if you have Jimbo's near you but they also have vegan baked goods. I never tried them though. My husband thought I was odd for starting at an entire display of vegan baked goods.

Oh I don't think it's good anymore, but when I was little I pretty much thought cake was just a sponge to put frosting on. The only exception was this strawberry and peach cake from a local bakery, so when we moved away my mom just started getting ice cream cakes for my (December!) birthday.

Huh, never heard of the place! I'll have to check it out when I'm near one of them. We're in Normal Heights. I just discovered Sprouts has vegan fig newton-ishes, though, so that's my latest exciting vegan find.

For me, cake is ALL about frosting.

I really wish the Gigi's gluten free cupcakes were vegan. Hers were my favorite because the pile of frosting is taller than the cupcake itself.

Sweetpea's gf cupcakes are definitely pretty bad. I also think any cupcake at Back to Eden (which is all xgfx) is better than the gluteny cupcakes at Sweetpea, honestly.

Me too. I was not the kid scraping the frosting off the cake, I was the kid keeping the frosting for last because it's the best part, then eating my brother's scraped-off frosting, then wishing for more. When my mother made cakes without frosting, I would contemptuously consider it bread and unworthy of the name of dessert.

Frosting is definitely the best part. I'm also one of those people that will have a little bit first to satisfy the craving, then eat the cake, then have the rest of the frosting. Saving the best for last!

Yes! Team Frosting for life! The cake is simply a vehicle for frosting. cake without frosting definitely = bread.

I would be in so much trouble if I lived near a babycakes - frosting shots would be enjoyed morning, noon, snack, and night :)

I'm definitely a member of Team Frosting! If it wasn't for frosting, I don't think I would ever eat cake.

Have you ever taken the tray that the sheet cake was on and scraped off and eaten all of the leftover "edge decoration" frosting?

Guilty.

I used to hate frosting. I like it a little bit now but still not a lot. There's a cupcake truck in Boston that sells frosting shots.

Haha! I have totally done this. When I was very little I ruined my great-aunt's fancy 75th birthday cake (it was like a wedding cake) by eating a large portion of the edge piping before the cake was served. I have since learned enough self control to at least wait until everyone else has had some.

Frosting makes my mouth feel super uncomfortable unless it's in small amounts. For some reason I have never thought about this very hard and just assumed it was a normal thing because it's been like that forever. Do I have a frosting allergy? Who knows.
