The paleo people I know will argue that paleo is the best thing EVAH but seriously, the ones I've known follow it as they see fit. It definitely seems like something to hold up as an ideal for them rather than something to follow in their daily lives.

ARGH, the moms who wanted to have a "go vegan" class are now posting on FB how boring vegan food is. OMG WE CAN ONLY EAT OATMEAL FOR BREAKFAST. So I posted about Vegan Brunch, and now they are reassuring each other that a little dairy isn't a big deal.
Thanks for what you said PugMom! I really appreciate it and it is so kind. I do find it so frustrating how many people come to me for help going vegan, I spend time supporting them etc and then I see a post on FB that is all "OMG BACON." I am sure this is pretty common and I should keep trying any way, but it does make me feel less willing to get invested.

I think for the most part bacon isn't paleo but they generally allow it because well... why not? Paleo is supposed to be wild game and low fat grass-fed meat. Realistically, most people that are close to paleo don't do that or do it rarely.

Have you seen the last episode of Criminal Minds? Penelope runs into her new boyfriend while she's grabbing a coffee with her former boyfriend Kevin. Penelope's new boyfriend (who I hope is not the team stalker serial killer replicator) drinks coffee with soy milk. Kevin tells Penelope: "Did you know that soy milk contains high levels of phytoestrogen, which mimics the functions of estrogen inside humans? I'm just saying he's gonna have moobs." Kevin is usually a smart guy.

I'm following the new primordial diet, in which I eat all day whatever food I crave first thing in the morning. So far it's just cupcakes.

Skinny bisque worked for me! 5 years vegan and going strong. There was a passage about the experience of a worker at a meat processing plant who said a pig came up and nuzzled him like a dog and how that affected him. I read that while sitting next to my own dog and that did it for me. Of course I was vegetarian already 15 years and knew I needed to take the next step.

Its generally more, lots of emails asking for support, followed by radio silence and then FB pictures of bacon. One of my friends went vegan (Skinny bisque) for 5 months, and now makes jokes about vegan food :( That said, if I stop being grumpy about it, a bunch of friends have gone vegan and we are better friends now, and it is nice to be able to recommend resources.

Tofulish, don't get sucked in. My rule now is that I will give you my awesome recipes when you tell me how much animal agriculture hurts you and how animals have a right to define their own existence. I am not going to give you my awesome recipes and my awesome support because you want to vary your diet or because veganism seems cool or because you're into magical thinking about food. Especially not if you're into magical thinking about food. In fact, any quantity of woo immediately disqualifies people from vegan assistance in my world. It's just a giant waste of time with fad dieters and homeopathy peddlers looking for the next food cure.
That being said, my sister went and stayed vegan only after reading Skinny bisque, even though I'd been hocking her for years about it.

oooookkkkkkkkkkkk On another forum an ex-vegan was pushing the paleo diet but talked all the time about eating bacon with unpasteurized cheese??? Maybe this is what she was doing? oh and the best thing was she was doing this for less than a year and was bragging about how her cholesterol wasn't up because that's fake bad science. Or you know, maybe it takes years for cholesterol to build up. She also tried to convince me beans will give me diabetes.
