My uncle has started buying random things for me at Costco when he identifies them as vegan. It's really cute. The other day I got a gigantic container of cinnamon, and he just went again yesterday and bought me a loaf of Dave's Killer Bread because "it's got no animal products in it at all!" (extra awesome because that bread is THE BEST).

Supportive people are great. I realize how lucky I am to have never once been hassled about my diet by a family member.

On Ellen yesterday Drew Barrymore was the guest. They made pesto together. Drew said parmesan and I was disappointed that Ellen was not sticking up for veganisim anymore...Then Drew said it was vegan - that she tried a bunch before finding the right blend. I was pretty happy then!

Today my local Starbucks was taste testing Via Lattes and giving participants a discount on their order. I said I couldn't sample it BC it has dairy in it, but the barista gave me the $1 off anyway. So I had a giant soy latte and it was cheaper than expected and oh so yummy.

This was about 50% ridiculous/hilarious and 50% awesome.

So, I'm in the line at WF yesterday and the cashier asked me if I am a "total vegan". I managed to not laugh my face off, and just smiled and said "yeah!" Then I looked at what I'd bought to see if I could figure out what INCREDIBLY VEGAN item I had that might have revealed the totality of my vegan-ness, and since I didn't have any nooch or Daiya or lawn clippings, I couldn't figure it out, so I asked "What tipped you off?" and the cashier pointed to my tofu. Really? Tofu is the signifier of veganininity? I ate tofu before I was vegan! But then we had a whole conversation about sauce and ice cream and by the end of the conversation it sounded like this person was seriously interested in reducing their animal product consumption, so I left feeling good about that. :)

I love it when people actually are interested and open, and you feel like just maybe, just maybe there will be one less animalproduct meal being eaten tonight...

In other news, now I want a shirt that says Total Vegan, like superhero style. Maybe with a cape, for extra panache.

As far as I can tell, this week will have been Mr Moon's first ever fully vegan week! Most weeks he has meat with dinner maybe twice or three times, and not at all this week! Even last night when I wasn't home, he had leftover soup and cereal for dessert!

I don't expect him to be veg all the time, and he almost never complains about what I make anyway, but there's something so satisfying knowing this.

Moon, I know what you mean. My husband has given up pretty much everything but mozz and Mexican cheese. On the weeks where we have neither, I get satisfaction from the fact that he ate vegan all week. I never point it out, but yeah, there is totally a sense of silent triumph.
(I'm pretty sure I could (silently) manipulate the Mexican cheese out of his life (I know, that sounds sneaky and awful) but the mozz is probably here to stay (sigh).)

I was soooooo happy when my local sprouts started carrying these again!

If you miss drumsticks, try these and you won't anymore.

Also, so many Girl Scout cookies are vegan now! I admit I binged a bit last night. And this morning. Cookies are the breakfast of champions.

When I got into work today one of the managers said she'd really wanted to bake on the weekend and decided to make vegan brownies so everybody could enjoy them! I am the only vegan in the office. I was really touched.

Ahhh! My favourite caterer in the world (who catered my wedding, and no I will never ever shut up about him) INSISTS that my husband and I receive his at-home delivery three course vegan Valentine's Day menu, gratis! There's more! A friend and I are dining at his business partner's restaurant next week (GRATIS!) and he convinced her to do a four course vegan tasting menu for that night only. I didn't even ask and was totally happy to maybe just have a glass of wine, bread, and a salad.

Here's the V-Day menu. I can't wait!!!

Blood Orange Segments, Sliced Avocado, Spinach Salad
***
Butternut Squash Ravioli, Dukkah Spiced Hazelnuts, Sweet Onion Nage
***
Dark Chocolate Ganache Tart

Vegan pet-not-so-awesome? I recommended the menu to the FB vegan group for my town, and they were super grouchy about it because he's not vegan and like, it's a splurge compared to FNB. Sorry.

So I hung out with omni's all day yesterday and.... I didn't starve.

For lunch, we had catered food from Qdoba! It was good, beans, grilled veggies, rice, lettuce, lots of salsa, guacamole and chips. I had told the coordinator a week prior that I was coming (she knows I'm vegan) and I was nervous. As soon as I saw what she ordered, I went up and thanked her.

Then we went out to dinner and we went to a local chain (Clyde's) and they had a couple potential items on the menu but I asked about one of their dishes and they said it was vegan. It was one of the best tasting things too. I was amazed.

It was a stuffed acorn squash, with barley, pumpkin seeds and cranberries over a bed of sauteed spinach. I really should try to replicate it at home because it was really, really good.

our fave thai place sent over a bowl of green curry the other night (on the house) and at first i thought the boyfriend would not dig it (it was loaded with veggies he does not like)....not only did he <3 it he asked me to make cauliflower wingz and at them the next day.

now we are adding the green curry to our next trip to the restaurant! yay! only if he would eat eggplant now...

Superbowl was a WIN. (even though the game was blah)

Friends I hadn't seen in a long time had a party. I brought spinach artichoke dip, which people went nuts over. One of our hosts had been vegan for a short time last year (for weight loss) and he was so sweet...made me the Trader Joe's Masala burgers, cooked in the kitchen (not the meaty grill). Also made sure there were other vegan goodies there

Also, I didn't get a lot of Vegan Bingo questions. Just a couple of 'here is some dip, can you eat this?' kind of stuff. Awesome. The game was hella boring, but not boring enough to have some ethical debate about animal products with a bunch of strangers.

I had a really good meal at a seafood place over the weekend! Crazy, right? I ended up getting a salad with two sides, but they were all really good and satisfying. I had a salad with roasted squash and pumpkin seeds, a quinoa and rice side with pomegranate and crispy onion bits, and fried Brussels sprouts. It was really filling and delicious.
