When did you kick the baby habit?

I went all the way vegan in one fell swoop.

I went vegetarian in 1989 after asking my mother where a hotdog came from. I went vegan in 1999 in high school. I had been wearing leather while veg without thinking much about it. One day before class, listening to a silverchair cd, I looked at my shoes and suddenly felt repulsed and knew I couldn't support the slaughter of animals in any way and felt like an idiot for not having this a-ha moment sooner. Gave up my leather shoes and dairy at the same time.

I was (the dreaded!) pescetarian from 10 years old til college, though I didn't eat much seafood. Then I was vegetarian for a year or 2 before accepting my fate as a vegan.

I went vegetarian at 13, which was tough for my parents to swallow. At 18, some omnivorous friends were calling me out on being veg for ethical reasons but still partaking in eggs and dairy. Bammo, never looked back.

I was vegetarian first, right around the end of 2004/the start of 2005. I didn't like cheese until I was in my late teens anyway, so while I had a lot more false starts with attempting a vegetarian diet, it was way easier to cut out dairy when I decided to go vegan a year later near the end of 2005 (with one purposeful candy bar lapse and two accidental meat-in-burrito lapses in the first couple months). Being vegetarian was just about what I ate. So was being vegan, at first, but for me, it has also become about the products I use and businesses I choose to either support of boycott.

I've been an on/off vegetarian since I was 5 but only because my mum thought you needed meat to survive and that only rich people could be vegetarians so she would force me to eat meat after a while. Finally when I was old enough I told her that I was going vegan or I would starve myself to death. She's knew I was serious.

I voted "No" but technically, I was - for about two weeks, tops.

I identified as vegetarian for 7 years before going vegan. A couple of weeks in, my mom told me it was just a phase. Ha!
