I'm in the same place the other person posted concerning their house. Homeowners isn't in effect right now because of some problems I've had getting work done. There's one tree that is especially irksome, so I'm hoping the wind doesn't topple that one. My cats are not happy at all. They know something's weird.

We received a robocall from ConEd a little while ago warning that our power might be shut off. We've done normal preparedness stuff for power outages and sitting snug, still enjoying the internet and the stereo for now. We're technically in Zone A but so close to Zone B that I am using it as my guide. Our basement is prone to flooding, so assuming that will happen.

All of the pictures and video they are showing on the news are so scary! I hope everyone in those areas stays safe.

My friends are losing power. The winds gusts are crazy, and Sandy hasn't even made landfall.

During Irene we didn't lose power, so our sump pump kept working. If we lose power and there is flooding our basement is going to flood...

So far we still have power but people on either side are out. Just hoping the roof and the wind don't do us in.

We have power but our tub is full, just in case. Wondering why I haven't yet received an email about work being closed tomorrow, but I suppose I'll have to call out regardless if the MTA is still down.

I just got called that my office is closed tomorrow. I am enjoying all of the electricity while I can, but I am getting a little nervous. I've been listening to NPR, so I'm not seeing horrific images or anything, but I still feel pretty weird. Maybe a little like Arlyss's cats.

The trees are being whipped around like crazy. We keep trying to get one of our dogs to go to the bathroom but she isn't having any of it (she did go pee). I wish I could tell her that its only going to get worse before it gets better.

Pumpkin brownies in the oven, so our power needs to stay on at least another 20 minutes.

Our elusive and rarely seen cat is snuggled up to me for protection. He's scared! Last year for Irene we were on vacation and he spent the whole week under the couch. I feel terrible for him.

Also, the center of the storm is almost here! The wind gusts are getting scary.

My son has been watching the Weather Channel all day, and so far, he hasn't panicked yet. But we're in NoVA so the worst for us isn't supposed to happen (from what I've gleaned from different websites) until about 9 tonight when the storm's rotation comes around or something like that. To be honest, I'm not sure the forecasters really have much of an idea WHAT is about to happen.

Incidentally, we just got mail delivered. Seriously.

Isn't it hilarious? The only 2 vans I've seen today have been the mail delivery people! Neither rain nor snow...

Yea!! I did my pumpkin s'mores brownie idea. Can of pumpkin, box of brownie mix, dandies, chocolate chips, and Sweet & Sara graham cracker crumbs. (Also, 1 tsp pumpkin spice and 1/2 tsp vanilla.) I could have used less pumpkin, more pumpkin spice, and added the marshmallows earlier, but I mean, they'll do. :)

I just read something that says that they are advising people to stop evacuating as the wind is more dangerous than the water right now and in areas where they were evacuating, water is cutting off exits anyway.

I made snickerdoodles and zucchini delight in the oven. And I have stuffed peppers in the crockpot. I need one more hour out of the crockpot! I was going to keep cooking but then I realized that if the power goes out I won't be able to heat any food up if its cold. So if we lose power I'm relying on my gas stove to be able to cook.

Update on the storm: NBC is saying the track has turned and isn't supposed to hit me dead on now! But everyone in shore towns and Delaware are getting slammed. It's about 40 miles off of Cape May at this point.

i heard little birds cheeping from the ledge near my living room window a few minutes ago. :( i had this insane urge to open the window and try to sweep them into my apartment. meanwhile, on the news there was a guy on a jet ski in the water off battery park.

Chris Christie's press conference right now is terrifying. Apparently the mayor made a decision to not evacuate Atlantic City, and now there are tons of people trapped there and nobody can get in to rescue them until 7am. I guess there is a main shelter just a block from the water that a bunch of people are in, and it is already flooding. And the high tide hasn't even happened yet. :(

I just heard his speech too. Hope those people in the school are ok and not on the ground level.

Our power is still good but the internet is in and out for some reason.
