This is exactly what I do, except it's always "Hey! I like cats too!"

This probably works better if you're a girl trying to date girls though. But in that case it almost ALWAYS works.

Really nice second date with the really nice girl, which she described as (with a posh British accent) "Just two ladies. Doing lady things." And the pop culture references didn't stop there, which was great. <3

Oh and I baked two birthday cakes (apple crumble and raspberry brownies, both from the PPK-blog) to take to work, and she made me promise to yell YOUR MOM'S CHEST HAIR at every person who'd ask me what's in a vegan brownie.

Good luck Mars!! Fingers crossed. And Paloma, that sounds awesome!

I went to play pool with a new guy yesterday. It was fun and I won most of the games (one by skill, the others because he made a mistake), it was an interesting and unconventional conversation.
Maybe we'll repeat but there was not so much chemistry I must say. He bought me ice cream though!

Queer people--talk to me about age differences. I'm 28. I have my account set up so that I am looking for people older than 25. But I keep talking to people who are younger than that. It creeps me out.

How much younger? I'm not queer, but I tend to have basic rules... I'm 26, with 27 right on top of me, and basically, I don't want to be involved with someone who is so much younger than I am that I'd be doing something like picking them up at a dorm room, or never being able to take them to a bar. I think where you are in life as far as maturity, what you've achieved, etc, is more important than a number. That said, I tend to be way more dubious of the likelihood of me hitting it off with someone much younger than I am. I am biased.

If you're uncomfortable talking to someone much younger than you, then don't! You should be comfortable and having fun.

At 28 I think dating people 25 and older sounds ideal, sure, but yeah, I don't think it's weird to go down a couple years depending on if you get along. And as for the queer part of that, in the queer scene here I've never noticed anyone being too weirded out by age differences.

yeah, I think our dating pool is generally smaller... and I live in the bible belt... and so I dunno. I'm still more comfortable with older people, but they can be hard to come by. Or maybe younger people like internet dating? Dunno. I'm approaching it with a "friends-only" mind-set for the time being.

oh yeah, I get the whole age difference thing in theory, but I would be worried about any sort of "don't date people x number of years younger than you" rule as I think it's pretty much case-by-case. I'm only 22 and I've generally dated people 5-10 years older than me pretty consistently since I started properly dating folks at 15. I don't aim for that much of an age difference, but it just seems to work out that way. doesn't mean I wouldn't give someone my age a chance or anything.
so yes, my point is go by person not by age?

I am in the same boat. I always feel a little weird about it at first, because my sister is 5 years older than I am and the people I date are generally closer in age to her than to me (and are older than she is!), but I've mostly stopped worrying. Usually I just worry about how my dad will react if I ever bring one home.

I'm currently dating two guys and I'm enjoying both, but not head over heels for either. However, we've been dating long enough that I'm starting to think I should at least let them know that the other one exists. I'm a little worried about how this is going to go. One I think will get it and be fine, but the other I'm a little worried is going to get upset. I don't want to stop dating either one just now, because I'm having fun with both and I'm not wildly falling for either one, but I also don't want to commit any lies of exclusion and subsequently end up hurting or upsetting someone.

The girl I'm seeing is 23. Theorethically, I (27) never thought I'd be dating a 23-y-o, but with her I haven't given it a second thought at all. I just like her for her.

Also, we kissed! Our next date is watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show together, and she's showing me her three-legged hamster. (Which is not a filter or something filthy, she actually has a three-legged hamster.)

okay I was thinking about this the other day because my friend Liz was complaining about never knowing how to greet someone she's meeting for the first time, and I realized I wouldn't really have any idea either. do you go for a hug, handshake, high five, nod? what? how do you do that? what motion goes along with "hi, it's nice to meet you" etc??

since people vary so much in what they're comfortable with, my preferred style is to simply ask via text that day or the day before if they like to hug people they meet or shake hands.
most people have replied hug, possibly because they're more comfortable now that it's been asked.

I feel comfortable enough with social cues to not ask about the end, just to let stuff unfold on their own, but I can't pick up someone's body language in the first .67 seconds I know them

The hot guy I was supposed to go out with tonight never responded to any texts! Or OKC messages! The weird thing is, going out was 100% his idea. Weeeiiird. Oh well, I just ended up texting and going out with other OKC guy, with whom I've been on a couple dates already. We haven't kissed or anything... And I'm having a hard time figuring out if he needs me to be proactive that way or if he just wants to be friends. It was fun regardless.

I used to date only guys my age or a few years older, now I'm dating someone 4 years younger (I'm 32) and I see no issue whatsoever because we're basically at the same stage of life. It really depends on the people.

Last night I had the kinky guy over for dinner, which he appreciated (except the green beans that stayed in the oven for 1.5 hours because he was late. Dehydrated green beans are not something I'll try again soon). We had a nice evening and smooches and stuff, and are planning for another date next week. Me likes!
