I've been seeing someone casually for a few weeks now, and have come to the conclusion that he isn't the one for me. He's a really nice guy, but we don't seem to have much in common and in fact he seems to have very few interests outside of his work/studies, so we don't really have loads to talk about. However, I suffer from a complete inability to end a date without saying "Yes, let's do it again!" so I'm figuring out how to gracefully extract myself from the situation. We've only been on a few dates, so it's not like he's going to be broken hearted - I just hate awkwardness.

Ha, lepelaar I actually thought of that scene as I was cringing after saying goodnight on our last date! I need a Rachel there to force me into it!

Why don't you just call him and let him know that he's great and all but it just isn't working for you, have a great life, etc?

You don't even have to call. Email/texting makes rejection so easy (maybe TOO easy).

Well, I am on this bandwagon! So far, I've gotten a message back from the one person I've found super worth talking to and I'm hoping we meet in person. Mostly it's a bunch of folks I'm medium interested in talking to or (primarily) people I'd want to stay away from. I'm noticing a lot of my close matches are people that I would never date- too similar to me in the wrong ways, so I feel like the mid eighties are a good percentage for me to look at.

Don't worry, I am going to do it via phone - it's just face to face that I struggle with.

I was back on OkCupid yesterday and have started receiving messages again, including one that simply said "I soooo would." Yeah, that's not mutual.

Yes. This. Especially if it has only been a few weeks.

I e-mailed the last guy I broke things off with. It came with a very nice explanation that I probably couldn't have said in real-life. He didn't respond. COOL.

I think that being on OKC makes me less happy.

Soooooooo, after a long overdue breakup and a relocation, I reactivated my OKC account a few days ago. I got a message from a guy who a.) lives in Switzerland b.) only has this as his self summary: Cute and caring and c.) answered all the same questions as me but completely opposite. this one especially was a no go:

Which is worse: starving children or abused animals?

Neither, both are good.

Really, dude?

edited bc I can't spell

Guys! I have a date with the supercute guy from above this weekend! I'm so excited! The more we talk, the more I find we have in common. Weeee!

I've pretty much been avoiding the other folks who are messaging me (not my type at all...I don't get why you'd bother with someone you have nothing in common with?), so we'll see how this goes!

I shut down my OKP account months ago after a particularly frightening date that pretty much turned me off all men for awhile. Yesterday a coworker subtly slid me a post-it note with the link to a new dating site she said will "totally work for you!"

Try it or not? (also, why is my entire department more concerned about my single status than I am?)

Hahaha, I just had the awkward moment of messaging someone who was online, only to have them log off immediately. It makes me feel oddly powerful :D

So I had this exchange today:
Dude: What's got four eyes and can't see(nothing with glasses on people)
Me: A potato?
Dude: No Mississippi
Me: ah, good one.
Dude: Spread the word

And then a different one:
"You're hot. We should definitely have sex.
Yeah, definitely :)"
Reinstating my OKC profile was a great idea.

I got this today:

Quote:
95% Match? This message is being sent solely based on our match percentage. Good work. Maybe we should be pen pals, as in with pen and papers and stamps and stuff.

Sincerely [Redacted].

SIDENOTE: This message was sent by scraping your username from my top percentage hyper-matches. Uh... in the pursuit of an absurd perfection and techno fabricated 'love' encounter I took the liberty to scream into the void. This would indicate that perhaps we answered enough questions we would be compatible and could maybe laugh together. I probably did not read your profile, but would like to have a reason to other than uh ... *long dramatic pause* ... Sorry. My thought was that having a high percentage would be enough to find your attention and entice you to get to know me. Well anyways, toodles. As christopher wool once said, "cats/inbag/bags/in/river" Also if you are a young dapper professional type I really want to say just completely disregard this message, because I don't play big people dress up, but what I should say is its okay someone has to do it right *wink* *wink*. Not being snarky, just sincere. Thnx. i'm serious about that pen pal thing.

TL;DR. "nerdy-artist" just doing research.

So....

Today I got another message saying 'I would ruin you in bed'. Not the first okc creep to tell me that, what the fork does that even mean?

Okay, I just switched my okc profile from gay to bi because it was starting to feel exclusionary and there's lots of people who identify as men that I'd be interested in. Now I remember why I did that. I keep getting messages from straight cisguys who clearly didn't read a word of my profile. It's somewhat hilarious. Today I got a message that just says "Are you a dude?" I'm not even sure how to answer that. Should I give this guy my full lecture on how I feel about gender?

Yes definitely. And if he doesn't immediately disable his account, post his response! :)

Once the novelty wears off you can make your profile invisible to straight people! (yeah, kind of feels jerky recommending that option but when you really want to use OKC as a tool for dating it can be a big time sink having all sort of straight people messaging you)
