Ha, so if anyone remembers the girl I was supposed to meet up with a week or so ago... Well she stood me up due to miscommunication and I haven't heard from her again. Oh well!

Spoke too soon. Things getting heavy too quickly--he is really ready for a relationship, and I'm in no rush.

Things are going really well with a guy a met a month ago on Tinder. We've had lots of dates--really fun ones, & sleepovers! I haven't been doing any new man shopping since we met, or dated anyone else. So maybe I should be posting in the crush thread now? Or relationship even (yikes)

Sad face, JillW! Lilyw, I hope you got your make outs.

I had a sleepover with the guy I've been seeing. He continues to be sweet and adorable and we're both awkward a lot and have talked a lot about communication and how important it is so we're always checking in on where we are/how we're feeling, how we're interacting, among other things. It's really great! He makes my heart fluttery when I think about him.

Dating in NYC is so much easier than DC, or maybe just being over 30 I feel like a lot of the game-playing has dwindled down and people are more up front about going out instead of sending a ton of messages back and forth. I respond to almost all messages because I feel bad not responding at all, but some women do the whole, "hi how r u?" messages, too! I thought it was just a lazy dude thing.

The guy I exchanged a few messages with found out where I work and has already asked for free tickets to our big beer fest.

Shut it down.

OVER IT.

luckily for me my very favorite FWB friend will be in town tomorrow, so i can drown my sorrows in Level 10 sexytime.

I was stalking you and noticed that you changed your profile back. What happened? How weird to go from zero to 60 back to zero in the space of a few weeks.

Sorry that he wasn't what you were hoping for. :(

Yea, this whole experience has been so crazy-- mostly in an amazingly good way, but now in a crappy way. Basically, I found out tonight that FWB guy is coming to my town tomorrow. He knows about my history with FWB guy so I wanted to give him a heads up, but I also wanted to open a discussion about what kind of boundaries, if any, should be on that hangout. So during that conversation he said that my hangout with FWB guy shouldn't have any boundaries and I was like "...oh", and talked about being confused about what we were... friends? More than friends? What? We talked for a long time, and he eventually had an epiphany that he wasn't over his ex and that he was still "deeply wounded" from that experience. Womp womp.

I am so sorry. Its so disappointing when someone seems to be a good fit and on the same page and then does a 180.

Yup. I think I'm done with OKC. I've fallen for too many unavailable dudes through it. At least I can read people better in real life, even if they are fewer and further between.

Got this in my inbox today..

Quote:
Hi, What kind of research do you do? I'm currently working on a book on 19th century secularism, science and religion. I was wondering if you'd like to do some research for me, provided you do the kind of research I'm referring to. I am currently looking for a research assistant to find, read and sometimes summarize material for me. I just can't read everything that I need to know in its entirety and an assistant would obviate that. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in?

I've heard of people getting generic spammy job offers, but this is so specific. It's just bizarre. I do sometimes take on freelance research projects, but who hires off an internet dating site? Feels super sketchy to me.

dcf, that's super weird! It seems too specific to be a scam/spam (but who knows?), but. . . really? How do people think that it's professional to use dating websites to find research assistants?

maybe they have a sexy research assistant fetish.

I got a message last night that said:

"did you have a poo at work today?"

That might be the oddest opener I've ever had! I ignored it mainly because I couldn't think of an appropriate response.

Right? It just seems so odd. One of my friends was wondering if maybe this is his first pickup line in every message.."oh, I see you're a math teacher. I have some quadratic equations that need solving, can you help?"

Giddyup.

baps, that is... weird. I don't envy you?

Things are going pretty well with the guy I've been dating from OKC, we'll probably see each other saturday or sunday and next wednesday we're going to a free classical music concert downtown. :)

You should reply that, yes, actually, you did poo at work today and it was explosive diarrhea that got all over the walls and when you came out your coworkers laughed at you and THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BRINGING UP THAT PAINFUL MOMENT!!!

Or, you know. Don't. That's cool too.

This made me laugh. Sounds like a 13 year old with a fake profile doing a prank call!

I'm not going to get into it because I don't want to jinx it, but I think I spoke too soon about the doom and gloom of whirlwind-insta-romance guy. We're talking a lot again. And I'm totally still going to marry him. Just maybe not tomorrow.

Also, if I talk about it again I'll post in the crush thread instead of here. It seems more appropriate since I have now sworn off of okcupid.

I don't understand Tinder. I like someone, they like me back. No further communication ensues. I feel like it's the 2014 edition of Hot or Not.
