I've just recently read various articles and videos of the effects of walking barefoot, and I'm amazed to see that shoes may indeed be worse for our posture, gait and the environment.

Needless to say
I may seek this venture out once I start work at my first job, I'm not going to necessarily walk barefoot at work though.
slowly transition to barefoot and maybe wear Vibram five toe shoe gloves (・ェ-)

Just an eye opener for me really.

Check out the class action lawsuit recently settled with vibram against claims like that.

(I still swear by my barefeet and 5-finger shoes, just.)

I saw that on the news and I thought that the 10 week study was too short, and the lawsuit is just because Vibram made health claims on their site without any scientific backed evidence.

Damned science freaks haha ( ゚,_ゝ゚)

I'm really into barefootedness!

I have a pair of vibrams for running and walking - love them! It's like being barefoot but not worrying about forking up the bottoms of your feet on rocks or hot pavement. Water goes right through them, so they're not so good for grocery shopping in the rain or schlepping through snow banks or what have you.

they're extremely "casual" - so for work I have a pair of vivobarefoot shoes - they look like regular shoes but have a ultra thin sole.

many of their shoes are leather, but they do have vegan stuff too: http://www.vivobarefoot.com/us/collections/ranges/vegan

Thanks your insight helped me sorta kinda maybe ^_^

Walking the streets of LA hot pavement, will make for bad day for me if I'd walk straight out the box bare, and the occasional shoe bandit might not target me :P

Looking at alternative website like eBay have brought the absurd $70 price tag down to 40 bucks specifically the Spyridon LS

I've been wearing Merrell Pace Gloves (these as my work shoes for the last 3ish years. I love them. I work in retail, so I'm constantly running around or standing in one place for large portions of time. My feet never hurt, unlike all the other shoes I've tried. I do have the added bonus of springy cork floors in the wine department, but the floor in the rest of the store is concrete.

Are barefoot shoes really as awesome as they say? I am quite curious. I've only ever been able to find one pair that I find even remotely attractive (http://www.vivobarefoot.com/eu/womens/g ... lour=Black) but of course they're leather.

I like my Merrells with vibram soles (no separate toe compartments), but they're not supportive enough for me to run in. Not that I run anymore anyway, but when I did, I had some ankle problems until I caved and bought proper running shoes. I still like the vibrams for everyday wear, though.

Minimalist shoes aren't made to be supportive, should have landed forefoot strike instead of heel strike.
and from what I've read it takes a couple weeks to a month to get the motions right

I have pretty thin shoe soles to while I'm walking at the store etc I practice landing forefoot strikes (balls of your feet), I've been more sore lately but I know it is working.

I had some five fingers, and they wore through very quickly and kind of didn't fit that well because of my family's whimsical toe arrangements.

Get yourself a pair of cheap tai chi plimsoles. They are the bees knees of running shoes.
