Snow this weekend. Spent yesterday baking salt dough ornaments, PPK gingerbread cookies (THANK YOU ISA! My husband is raving over them) and knitting. Today I pulled out the decorations. Wreath has been on the kitchen door for a few weeks. Last year I totally lamed out for Christmas, we didn't even have a tree.... so this year I am just saying BRING IT ON.

Also, I am almost done my christmas shopping. Just three people left. Jealous?

Christmas, yay! I love the music and decorations and yummies and togetherness. I suppose the holiday is what you make of it. I enjoy what I like and pretty much ignore the rest.

I went to my hometown's xmas parade today! I have only missed it 3 times in my life. I don't usually decorate the house until December 1st, but I have a tiny artificial tree in my room that I just set up today, along with xmas lights around my door (Only to find that half of the strand was out, after I had spent 10 minutes carefully taping them around the doorway. At least one half looks pretty?).

I love the christmas season. Even though christmas itself has been pretty boring/disappointing the last couple of years (mainly due to most of my extended family members saying they "don't have time" to get together to celebrate), I still love the season. Christmas was always SO FUN when I was a kid, so I have a ton of happy memories, and I just love the lights and the trees and the foods and the smells and the tv specials... it's the one time of the year that I go from feeling like a chronically cranky person to feeling like an excited kid again.

We started singing carols today, and Leela got so excited and sang the Falalala part of Deck The Halls. It was wonderful.

i think im gonna skip on the tree this year. my husband doesnt really care. his family is Jewish and as far as i can tell they didnt really do much for Hanukkah after the kids grew up so he doesnt really "get" the whole holiday spirit thing.
i think ill still put out all my other decorations (snowmen!) and my outside decorations (light up pig and hippo!)

this year is probably gonna be a really low key xmas for us. no tree and we're trying to save money since im gonna pop out a kid in May.

i definitely see xmas cookie baking in my future though!

I like this time of year! even though christmas wasn't a thing in my family growing up (jewish) I totally get in to the lights+peppermint+gingerbread+fireplaces vibe!

my city also gets stupid cute with the lights this time of year, loveee it.

As I get older it's more and more important to me to break out the decorations and do fun holiday shtuff. This is my first Xmas tree in 8 years! Woo!! And I only give presents to my parents and inlaws, mostly homemade stuff these days so I can avoid shopping and get on with the crafting. I'm pretty stoked!

I'm looking forward to it so much! My kid is 1½ years old, so this will be the first Christmas he's really aware that something is happening. He's also really into baking right now (rolling squishy things on the table), so I'm going to try baking some holiday stuff with him. And my sister in law has a new baby (four days old today!) - new family members at Christmas is the best!

I am pretty much a scrooge this time of year, but am going to make an attempt to be less scroogy this year (without actually celebrating)

I did notice that the city I live in has put up lights recently, and they are really pretty. White ones in the trees near major intersections, and in the trees in the medians. I am not big on the super decked out decor for the most part, but the lights are really nice to look at.

Also, I got some good deals on cyber monday yesterday (with no holidays, there would be no black friday/cyber monday right?). 3 Kindle books by one of my favorite authors for $2 each, and a dress for New Year's Eve, hella cheap. and free return shipping if it does not fit. asos.com awesome site, I just discovered it.

Also, I *might* get a holiday bonus at work, and we get the 24th-27th off from work.

So...it's not looking too back this year. I will try to be more positive, or at the very least, neutral about the holidays.

I have mixed feeling about Christmas this year. It's my first vegan Christmas, and I have two dinners to go to, neither of which I'm cooking.

My nan is cool, she's going to do turkey for her, and something vegan for me. She's made sure to get vegan mince pies and christmas pudding, and today we found vegan cream to go with it (thank you for Holland and Barrett).

But my mother...last week, after listening to me go on about veganism and what wasn't acceptable on my plate and all that, she then offered me chicken curry for dinner. :l was so not impressed.

Kind of afraid of what she's going to put on my plate.

We aren't doing anything Christmas-y and this is the first year I'll won't be joining my parents, but I am so, so, so excited to have my first Christmas with just me, Jay, and our cat Puddy. I love our little family and I can't wait to just eat and drink and play with the cat and watch movies. We aren't even exchanging gifts this year so we'll have to top that lack of indulgence with really, really awesome food.

Same. Today my mother in law was really cute and said "whatever you want me to make, tell me and I will make it" but they do dinners on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and they will have enough to do, so I told her I would supply a couple of things whether she likes it or not. Now just have to figure out what LOL

My book club is reading Holidays On Ice by David Sedaris this month. I've been waiting for Dec to roll around before I start it, but I think I'm going to let myself listen to some of the audiobook today!

Charlie Brown Christmas! The only Christmas movies I actually like are this one and the original Grinch.

The original Grinch is still my all time fave Christmas movie. Though Elf is becoming a close second.

Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas album is one of my favorites. Also the Joe Pass album Six String Santa. And Rudolph, Frosty and Friends' Favorite Christmas Songs, a collection of songs from the Rankin/Bass specials.

Two words: "bah" and "humbug". I'll gladly drink cocoa, look at lights and watch Home Alone. I could do without the rest.

Yes! All three are on the must-see list. Also: Tokyo Godfathers. And the musical version Scrooge with Albert Finney,
