It's an internship, which is good because it's kind of a change of field for me and will give me the experience and connections I need. All the companies I've been looking at so far are startups that need someone with 1-2 years of industry experience and don't have the time or resources to train a newbie, so this might be my ticket in. Exciting!

I got the jooooooob! They wanted me to start immediately but I got them to agree to april. Now I just have to convince my prof to let me leave.

Congrats couroupita!

My official "last day" is today, although the last day I worked was Thursday. I can't believe I'm unemployed. I haven't not had a job in 17 years. My (former) company is providing free career transition support through some consulting company back east so I sent them my resume to review and provide feedback. And I have a bunch of applications in. But the full time job of looking for a full time job starts for real when I get home on Tuesday.

I know! When I left on Thursday he asked if I was coming back. I really don't think he understands the concept of laid off. But I never have to deal with him again and that's the silver lining.

I have a three-way decision to make

a) what I'm doing now. good money, tons of flexibility, stressful overhead
b) 'safe' option, but still offering growth. good money, good stability, tons of flexibility
c) 'risky' option, which will make my heart happy (socially satisfying job with passionate people). average money, relatively stable, tons of passion

I'm leaning towards c. following your heart can only be so bad, right? worst case, at least you took a leap.

(why am I so afraid of commitment when it comes to a job/city? nothing else at all makes me like this, goddammit)

I can't see any other option. I think I'm mostly just not sure how to say no to the others

I've been really frustrated with my boss lately and a couple of weeks ago I applied to a few job postings because it was a particularly rough week with him. One of those jobs wants to do a preliminary phone interview with someone from their HR department. I'm kind of excited, but it feels so shifty and I feel guilty like I'm cheating on a partner! I know I'm not, and this is a perfectly normal thing that happens all of the time, but I still feel so guilty about it! The job is also in a completely different sector which could be a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know.

I went with c).

and I had to contact people from a) and b) to let them know I wouldn't be working with them. they were super supportive of me though, and are stoked about the new team/product I'll be a part of!

I'm nervous about joining a full-time team though! fingers crossed.

Yayy joshua!!! Good job making a decision that is heart happy! I'm doing that sort of now so let's hope it works out for both of us. Is your new job in Berlin? I want you to be there when I maybe visit in the spring!

A company contacted me to interview for a really interesting job, in North Carolina. I haven't been in the workforce for a while, so it was nice to be contacted, but I doubt I'll get it. I am kind of excited at the idea of moving. I've been in NJ for so long!

Good luck Tofulish, I really like North Carolina plus it definitely has a lower cost of living.

Yay Joshy! And good luck Tofulish!

I recently got a promotion but I think that my promotion is secretly a ploy to train me to replace a superior. She keeps hinting that she's leaving, and is training me at breakneck speed. It's fine, because the pay raise would be significant and I would rock at this job, but I wish there was a little bit of transparency at my workplace. We're a small business and all very tight (aside from the owner, who makes no friends) but still somehow no one is ever really sure if they're climbing or falling.

Congrats! I get what you're saying, it would be nice to know exactly where you stand. Hopefully it all works out as you're thinking :)
