I'm curious. I have a preference for AFfluent, and afFLUent sounds wrong to me, but I sometimes hear it pronounced as afFLUent on TV.

News reporters are freaks. But not the good kind that I want to be friends with. I've never heard anyone say
afFLUent. But the only news I listen to is NPR which is mostly filled with the good kinds of freaks who I do want to be friends with.

AFF' loo ent. The other way doesn't sound right to me, though it is given as a legitimate variant in some sources, apparently.

I say both. I think I grew up saying it the second way. Maybe it's a regional thing. I think both are correct.
