Hey there. My hubbie and I go to the movies a lot but there are not that many options for vegan snacks although I know some of the candy is vegan. Anything that people love to bring to the movies to snack on?

I like Sour Patch Kids, Junior Mints, and Swedish Fish for movie munchin'.

What Junior mints are vegan???????? This changes everything :)

Ugh, are you serious? I could've sworn someone on the PPK said they emailed the company and found out they were vegan. I apologize for misleading anyone.

I like bringing some pretzels in a baggy to munch on. If I am in a sweet mood, I pack a chocolate bar.

I smuggle in my own popcorn in a big purse. And sometimes candy. My new fave candy bar is the brand Choco Love (I think)? dark chocolate with salted almonds....holy crepe, that is some kind of addictive candy bar.

Chips. Pretzels. Apples. Carrots. Celery. Rice cakes. Cereal.

Sour patch kids! And I think the popcorn (without added butter) is safe at some theaters. They usually list ingredients on the theater websites. Trail mix.

Smuggle some kale chips! You can't get any more vegan than that!

Don't feel bad! There was a massive thread about it and everyone went out and ate them, but then it turned out that even though they got rid of the gelatin and egg whites, they're still made with shellac. Boo.

We're pretty spoiled around here... my favorite local movie theater not only has vegan popcorn (and a shaker of nooch to put on it), but they also regularly sell vegan scones and brownies.

Yep. The "butter flavored salt" that comes on popcorn before they add melted butter is often non-dairy. I've asked before and they're usually pretty happy to say.

We're spoiled in Santa Cruz-- a couple of the movie theaters have nooch shakers for your popcorn.

Anyway, we never get out to see movies much anyway. :(

A vegan friend of mine who worked at a movie theatre once told me that movie theatre popcorn is pretty reliably vegan, because if it had dairy in it, they couldn't leave it sitting out overnight. The "extra butter" you can get added is not vegan, but the plain popcorn (according to my friend) is.

Cool! Which ones? I want to go to the movies now.

The Del Mar and the Nickelodeon do (and the others in that chain). The Regal chain theaters don't that I recall.

yeah I am totally spoiled, the movie theater closest to me has vegan cookies for sale at the snack bar.


I once brought vegan sushi in as a snack when my friend and I went to see Spirited Away at Ritz at the Bourse.

The "added butter" is even vegan at some theatres...because it's not butter, it's oil with flavoring in it. There are a few chains that are vegan that I read in a VegNews article once but I can't remember the names and don't want to tell you wrong.

At last night's double feature I had: a lot of apple flavoured fizzy water, mint licorice, sesame brittle, and a pecan flapjack (the British kind).

I never cared for the idea of snacking while watching a movie in a movie theater so I may not be helpful. How about grapes? Or trail mix?
