We've had a lot of "how do you pronounce" threads. Perhaps we could ask all our word questions in one thread?
Anyway, how do you pronounce "rooibos?" Every time I order it at Starbucks, they look at me like I have three heads.

well, having south african friends, i can confidently tell you it is roy-boss, if you are south african, you may want to roll the "r" ;)

i definitely pronounced kefir as kuh-fear and promptly got laughed at by my friend who said it's kee-fer (or keiffer, as in sutherland). I still like kuh-fear.

yeah i always thought kefir was keh-FEER. but i have no idea if i'm right on that one. cumin, i say coomin. and i have never even read those ones pp just posted...

My grand aunt who spent many years in Ethiopia pronounces "berbere" as "behr-ber-ay" but I have no idea if that's actually correct.

i think it's acceptably just called Les Mis prounounced Lay Miz.
i think if you pronounced the whole thing it's Lay Miz-er-abb
i think.....

I've been saying rooibos wrong all along. Luckily I hate it.
berbere = I've heard both ber-ber-ay and berber
cumin = cue-min
I'm trying to figure out how one would say niter kibbeh other than the way I say it. niter is "nitter." kibbeh is kibbeh!

I was waaay off on rooibos! I don't think I've ever said it aloud (or heard anyone else say it!), but I have always read it as "roo-ee-bose."
Cumin is "coo-min." I find "cue-min" irritating. Much like "coo-pon" vs. "cue-pon."
