The walk of shame can definitely be applied wherever. When you hooked up with someone and cleaned up afterwards and therefore look entirely presentable BUT the person was, er, not someone you're repulsed by in the morning so you feel ashamed as you walk. The walk of shame is increased when you look like you've been doing exactly what you have been doing. It is further increased if everyone KNOWS what you've been doing. However, sex isn't essential but assumed when you use the phrase usually. Except among my friends where it's just drunkenness and looking trashy that's assumed. I'm liking all the walk stories that this thread is sparking by the way.

Can the cyclist give you a ride on the handlebars? Sometimes he double-rides me to his house, if I'm downtown without my bike, but double-riding terrifies me. And it's all uphill from his place to mine, so...that would be a little much to ask. Plus, I'm perfectly capable of getting home on my own!

Stride of Pride indeed. I rarely get to do it, since I'm way more about the woof-grrr-thank-you-sir than spending the night, and if I am drunk enough to spend the night, I usually live closer than the gent(s). I've only ever heard it refer to walking home after a one night stand.

Where I first heard this, it was a high school term, defined as a guy walking back to the "stag line" (boys' side of the room) after he walked, solo, across the dance floor (gym by day) to ask a girl (sometimes the most popular, sometimes ANY girl) to dance, and she turned him down. Flat. All the other guys staring at him all the way over, and then no one makes eye contact on the way back. You know how catching rejection is.
Yes, it was long ago.

I always thought it was called the Stride Of Pride?
That's what I call it, anyway...
