I just like learning languages. Swedish is relatively easy if you know German and English (Scandinavian languages influenced English early on) and one of my vague goals is to read the Moomin books in Tove Jannson's mother tongue. It kind of reminds me of French as well, with all the silent letters...

If I wanted to learn useful languages, I'd go for Polish and Urdu or Arabic and get an untouchable job in the local council. Actually, as my current goal is to work in education, hopefully BSL will give me a "he's really good value for money, we must keep him" vibe.

The bane of my language nerd existence, haha. When I was in Norway even the 2nd graders asked me "why dont you learn a useful language like Spanish?" Ditto Icelandic, Dutch, Catalan. Welsh.

The only time I did not get it asked was when I studied French, Spanish and Chinese. I mean, it IS usefull* knowing languages that aren't wildly spoken, but that's not really why I want to learn them anyway. Languages are just awesome and fascinating! And you get to know so much culture through language, too, if you are into that.

I wanted to start catalan again but the uni course starts in winter and until then I thought I should probably get my head into my Spanish and/or French books again and freshen it up.

*freudian slip: I wrote "useless" first.

i am learning the vagaries of Brazilian corporate structure and tax implications. gulp.
depending on what the week's translations are, i may be learning about Brazilian diplomatic views of Afro-Brazilian cultural accomplishments (that is in the pipeline), something vaguely described as related to the Uruguay-Paraguay-Brazil war [to be published in a historical research journal], and at this time of year the Brazilian Forestry Statistical Report should be coming out, so I'll be updating myself on the current state of the GDP and the government's latest last-ditch attempts to keep us out of the hole.

Ha. Maybe I should learn how to make tofu too!

I'm learning Python because group members in one of my classes were like "wouldn't it be fun if we all learned Python to do this project in instead of using a language we all already know?" And I guess it is thoughts like that which landed us in computer engineering.

"studying" and taking qualifying tests to be a Google Certified Trainer. Mostly for fun, but I figure that it's something to put on my LinkedIn profile and maybe see if I can get some faculty development seminars out of it.

I would like to be learning something right now, but I'm so lazy and can't really do self-guided learning. I'm also cheap and don't want to pay for learning (since I'll be paying for my formal education for the next 18 years or so).

People who have used Coursera - what are your thoughts on it? Did you enjoy the experience?

Polish, Japanese and screenprinting. I learned screenprinting years ago but haven't done it for a while so am re-acquainting myself with it.

I'm learning Zumba! Hey...when you're not coordinated, those classes are definitely a learning experience. I'm getting a neurological work out along with the physical work out.

I need to start studying for my intro sommalier exam, but since I don't know when the test is, I've had very little motivation.

Drinking--er, tasting is learning, right? I'm doing that right now!

I'm also always learning yoga and knitting. I'd love to learn French and Spanish. Maybe Italian too. And more about science. I love science.

This is awesome. I've been wanting to brush up on my Spanish; I've forgotten so much! I love this site.
Thank you!

Lampworking (glass work). I'd dress this up as some sort of 'learning art is a process - you are never finished' crepe, but to be honest it's been three years since I started, and I just still suck ;)

I had a dog trainer come over today (free lesson when I adopted my new pup, Sarge).

She worked with all the dogs, (I have three now), & we had behaviors to work on with all of them. I have lots of home work
this week...the dogs and I will hopefully both learn a lot.

Right now I'm taking an intense 3 hours/5days week course in french. So I am getting better every day! So far I'm pretty okay with most verbs in present. Just slowly building my vocabulary. My pronouncation is horrible, though, so I am definitely going to practice a lot more.

I am also learning art history/chronology and curating. It's a lot of fun.

I'm a bit of a learning addict! At the moment I'm learning:
- to play the fiddle. I'm in my second year of learning to play by ear, mostly Scottish tunes.
- Portuguese in the hope that I will get the funding to go to Brazil later this year that I have applied for.
- aerial fabrics and trapeze, which I love doing :)
- stuff for my PhD thesis on activism in Scotland.
- British social history, so that I at least know more than my students when they turn up for tutorials with me!

Me too! I haven't started properly yet, but I am going to a conference in summer that is about computer programming and other stuff, and although my boyfriend said I don't need to know how to program (I haven't the faintest clue of any programming language), another friend insists that I need to know how to do it to fully enjoy the conference. So she is going to teach me python. This is what comes out of hanging out with computer geeks... My boyfriend showed me a few things the other day and it looks neat. Looking forward to this new activity. I remember loving doing things in html.

Cello! It was my new year's resolution so I started lessons in January. I have a lesson tonight! String instruments have always been a mystery to me (I play clarinet) but I love the sound of the cello and have been dying to learn for a few years.

Nice to see so many others of you learning instruments. Let's all stick with it!

It turns out there are lots of e-learning modules I can do at work in my non-specific admin time. I'm going to work my way through them and amass certificates as part of Operation Renew Gulliver's Contract. So, I'm learning all about abuse detection and safeguarding in different groups. Today, I got, by which I mean printed off, my safeguarding vulnerable adults certificate.
