There were a few years there when I was bitterly ashamed that I had been one of the generation of rabid NSYNC fans. I'm glad to announce that's over. JT<3<3<3

I can't believe there was a vegan bit on a comedy show and it wasn't insulting us!

I never "get" American comedy sketches. They're just almost never funny and I feel like I'm missing something. :(

It was entertaining enough and nice to see some vegan recognition going on, but I didn't find it funny either. I'm not keen about modern humor. Good comedy used to exist but something changed along the way. I feel like there's more 'stupid humor' out there now than anything else.

I don't know many American comedy shows that I find funny. Well, there was 30 Rock and... I loved the simpsons pre-season 10, but not in laugh out loud way. Liked Family Guy for a bit until I just thought it was racist-sexist garbage.
Sorry for hijacking this thread like this. But do you have any recommandations maybe? I tried Parks & Recreation and Portlandia but I just found it inoffensive unfunny.

I still think they're making fun of us but in a much gentler way. It was cute.

All of the shows I like are much older, like the classic comedy shows. Try out I Love Lucy, I don't think you can go wrong with that. I'm not sure if my other favorites are funny funny per se, but they're classy. The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Who's The Boss (maybe give that one a go?), etc.

I don't like Bing Bang Theory. Makes me feel uncomfortable. I remember Who's The Boss from when I was a kid. But these sitcom shows were never funny. I think I watched them more for the stories & characters.

I'm actually not sure if you'd like it or not, because the main character is sort of a terrible person and the show is a little weird and dark. It's certainly more interesting than your average sitcom though. Or maybe Mr. Show if you've never seen it before? It's a sort of acerbic sketch comedy show from the 90s. Some of the humor is sort of juvenile but it can be clever at times too.

I've only seen Louie bits and they were okay. I shall try it. Putting Mr. Show on the list as well.
Oh oh and I forgot I liked Community (season 2-3, now I cant watch it anymore). Does "Flight of the Conchords" count as American comedy? Oh and I do enjoy Suburgatory, but it's not laugh-out-loud stuff either.

I love JT as a comedic actor, he really throws himself into it and he's just great. I loved this!
VeganInBerlin, what do you mean by American comedy? I see the difference between American and British for example, but what kinds of stuff are you used to seeing that you think is funny? If you told us that, perhaps we could help you find things you thought were funny.

Well, there's not THE British comedy genre or THE American comedy genre but yes, British stuff is mostly more likely to make me laugh, just like I hardly ever laugh when I hear German comedians (mostly very cringe-worthy).
One of the best ever tv shows was Ideal. And things like Spaced & Peep Show.

Vegan, what about Third Rock from the Sun? some of it depends a bit on american culture for laughs but on the whole i think most people find it pretty funny. it's old but definitely worth hunting down. also, speaking of dearly departed but hysterical, Arrested Development (mayitrestinpeace).

I loved Arrested Development. Then re-watched it and was bored. I think I need to be a certain mood for it.
Episodes was(is?) a good show.
Steward Lee is funny to me. I used to love a lot of British stand up comedians but re-watching the stuff I notice so much "ironic" sexism and racism.
Just looked for " Third Rock from the Sun" but didn't find anything. Will keep it in mind.
